MORGANTON, C, APR. 25
Almost 150 riders gathered at the Burke County
Fairgrounds for this season's opening round of
the jMX Rollercoaster Racing Tour. The large
entry Ul the 125cc C and Unlimited C/O classes
forced multiple qualifiers for the main events.
This year, the first race of the Rollercoaster Tour
was held at Morganton SX, and no one was disappoulted, not even those who ended up having
to watch instead of race.
'We like coming here because irs got a good
layout," said one pit dad. "The bathrooms are a
little far up the hill, but they're worU, the walk.
The pits are right next to the track, and you can
see everything from the bleachers on the other
side. And the track is well-lit and fun."
Even B.). Michaud insisted that he had fun in
the 65cc (7-9) class. While chasing leader Bradley
Bunch aboard his newly rebuilt KX60, Michaud
suddenly came to a halt on the infield. Try as he
might, neither Michaud nor his dad could get
the little green machine to refire, so he pushed
the bike to the finish line and waited patiently
for the checkered flag. Some kids would have
thrown a fit at experiencing bike trouble. but not
Michaud. When BWlch zipped past as the winner, Michaud helped push his KX up the tabletop to take last place, then went back to the pits
to congratulate Bunch.
Brandon Ellenburg had fun, even on a borrowed bike that wasn't even his usual brand.
"My bike blew up this week, so my friend
said I could ride his," said Ellenburg, winner of
the 85cc (12-13) and Supermini classes
E&H Honda teammates Freddy Rowe ill
and Blake Arrowood took second and third in
the B5cc 02-13) class, wltich consisted of 14
riders.
AJ Lane Yamaha's William Wilson and Brian
Lane, E&H Honda's Nicholas Burns, Suzuki of
Gastonia's Troy Crisp and teammate Ben Rutledge, and Krause/Mega Motorsports' Matt
Abbott provided crowd-pleasing action in the A
classes. Wilson won both the 125 and 250cc A
(Above left) Ryan Ferris won both the 60Cc (9-11) and 80Cc Beginner classes at a
motocross held at Silver State Raceway in Carson City, Nevada.
(Above right) Dwayne Mitchell (99) terrorized the 125cc C class, taking over quickly from
T.J. Fairbanks and Scott Jones (37) to win the main at a warmup race for the Rollercoaster
Racing Tour, held in Anderson, South Carolina.
(Right) Nick Bums (511) and William Wilson (318) battled in the A classes, but it was Wilson
who won the 125 and 250Cc A classes at round one of the RMX Rollercoaster Racing Tour,
held in Morganton, North Carolina.
