KB Racing began its third season of promoting motocross racing in Northern California with full classes in all categories. A new track layout greeted the riders with challenging sets of whoop sections and multiple tabletop and double-jump combinations. . Rick Cervantes led the charge in moto one of the first Vet Beginner (Division 2) moto and held on to lead through the lBO-degree first tum. Hot on the rear of his 10<250 were Gary Rose, Cole, Chris A lleberry and the heavily favored Louis Webb of Antelope. On lap two, Rose had some minor problems, dropping two positions and handing second place to Cole. Cole wasted no time and zapped Cervantes on the very next lap to take over the lead position. Everyone seemed content with his place, and at the checkers it was the RMI25-mounted Cole with the win, Cervantes in second, Alleberry third and Webb fourth. Rose managed to salvage fifth, just ahead of a group of riders. Cole didn't waste any time and grabbed the 'holeshot at the drop of the gate in moto two. Rose had another good start in second, followed by Cervantes and Frontier Cycle-sponsored Ray Keenom in fourth. First-moto top, five fi'\ishers Webb and Alleberry had horrible starts well out of the top 10. Cole, Rose and Cervantes freight-trained around in this order for the next few laps while the action behind them heated up. Kurt Lindquist, out of nearby Rancho Cordova, had steadily improved from his sixth-place start and was now up to fourth at the midway point. Rose kept his KXl25 near the front, keeping solid pressure on Cole for the lead. Cole weathered the storm and held on for the moto and overall win. Rose finished a strong second, with Cervantes, Lindquist and Keenom rounding out the top five. Cervantes' 2-3 finishes earned him second overall, while Rose captured .third with a 5-2 tally. Webb salvaged an eighth in the second moto to take fourth overall, ahead of Lindquist. . All riders had nothing but praise for the Ken Berneisen-designed track. With the next race kicking off the five-race Spring Series, expect some heated competition and hot action for spectators and riders alike. CN Results 50 P/W JR: 1. Preston Myers (Su%): 2. A.J.
