AUGUST 22, 1990
Newly crowned 500cc Motocross World Champion Eric Geboers was
featured on the cover of Cycle News 30 years ago. We ran an interview
with the Belgium who was heading to Glen Helen for the final round of
the 500cc GP series. We also had a preview of the race... We covered
the 125/500cc National Motocross at Washougal. Guy Cooper (125cc)
and Jeff Stanton (500cc) came away with the wins... Kevin Schwantz
defeated Wayne Rainey at
Donington... Ryan Hughes and
Brian Swink shined at Loretta
Lynn's.

Eric Bostrom made front-page news when he ended a two-year
winless drought in AMA Superbike racing when he won at Pikes Peak
20 years ago... Chris Carr chalked up his 12th straight win at the
Peoria TT... Mike Alessi, Josh Lichtle, Tyler Bowers, Ian Trettel
and Turbo Reif were some of the winners at Ponca City... Ricky
Carmichael won again, this time at the Spring Creek National MX;
Travis Pastrana won the 125cc class... Joel Smets clinched the
500cc MX GP crown in Belgium.
