VOLUME 57 ISSUE 33 AUGUST 18, 2020 P69
THE BRAKING POINT
The Red Bull Ring places huge
demands on MotoGP machines'
braking systems, particularly turns
one, three and four. Turn four in par-
ticular sees riders braking from 185
mph to just 52 mph in 5.4 seconds.
The load on the lever is 14.1 pounds
and the system pressure is 13.8 bar.
This can lead to the front discs over-
heating. Two riders—Nakagami and
Quartararo—found their front brakes
compromised, with the French-
man citing a lack of pressure on his
brake lever the reason why he ran
off track at turn four before the race
was stopped.
