Vintage Iron is putting to·gether the Vintage Iron World Championships, to be held in conjunction with the White Brothers Vet World Championships, October 31-November 1 at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. The vintage races will be held on a second circuit at Glen Helen while the Vet races will run simultaneously on the National MX track. For more information, call 209/252-9053. Upcoming schools: The next two sessions of Keith Code's California Superbike School wiI1 be held at Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, GaJifornia, on April 27 with a second school scheduled for the new Streets of Willow Springs on May 10. Code will hold a session at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California, on May 12. Just a reminder that round five of the AMAINATC National Observed Trials Series and the El Trial de Espana will be held April 18-19 at Reed Valley, near Temecula, California. The National is scheduled for Saturday and the El Trial de Espana Sunday. The El Trial de Espana is a fund-raiser event for the American team to compete in the Trails des NMidns in Italy later tltis year. For additional information, call 714/5627742. After two dominating wins in the British round of the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park on Monday, April 13, Noriyuki Haga is leading the championship point standings by 21 points over Troy Corser. Haga's performance at Donington Parl< comes only one week after the Japanese rider finished third in the 500cc Grand Prix opener in Suzuka, Japan. So not only does the 22-year-old Haga lead the World Superbike Championship, but .he's also third in the 500cc World Championship. Haga finished eighth in last year's World Superbike Championsltip, competing in only eight races and winning once. He also managed to win the All-Japan Superbike Championsltip last year. Four tracks in three states will anchor the AMA's 1998 speedway season, ending with the AMA National Speedway Championship at the Gold County Fairgrounds in Auburn, California, on September 25. A field of 16 riders from AMA tracks in California, Oregon and ESPN2 does GNCTV AMA Pro Racing has officially announced that selected rounds of the 1998 AMA Grand National Championship Series will be televised on the ESPN2 sports television channel. The coverage, which focuses on the traditional high points of the Grand National season, has been made possible by the HarleyDavidson Screamin' Eagle line of performance accessories. The sched ule is set to kick off with the airing of the Memorial Day running of the Springfield Mile on June 8, with repeat dates of the Grand National, Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance Series, and Beer Nuts Hall of Fame Qualifier races to follow. Besides the sch.edule listed below, other televised Grand National events will be announced as they are scheduled by ESPN2. Future races will include the Route 66 Half Mile at Joliet, Illinois; the Hall of Fame race and Grand National mile at Springfield, Illinois, on Labor Day weekend; and the season finale Del Mar New York, and European-based international stars and wild-card entries will tackle the Auburn oval in a suddendeath format to crown a Speedway National Champion. Another special event for U.s. Speedway fans will be the North American Qualifier, scheduled for June 5 at Auburn. The AMA National Reliability Enduro Series, which serves as the qualifying series for the U.s. team to the·ISDE, is set to begin on May 16 in New Waverly, Texas. The series will feature regional competition culminating in a series-ending championship finale set for June 2021 in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. That event is a single-event championship that will crown National Champions in . five classes of competition. White Brothers will be an associate sponsor of the 13th annual Huntington Beach Concours D'Elegance car and motorcycle show on June 14. The primary function of the concours· is to raise money for the Huntington Beach, California, Central Library's Children's Resource Center for gifted and physically challenged children in Huntington Beach and the surrounding Orange County area.
