Within a lap, Dickson had made his wa y around both Alush and MacMiller to se t the pace out front Gabi Aba yau qu ickly overcame his midpack start to run in second place wi th only a lap comp leted . Abayou hounded Dickso n for a lap un til Dickson settl ed into a blisterin g pace and started to pull away from the CR250 ride r. Dickson con tinued to d ista nce hi mself from Abayou and the rest of the field by some three to fo u r secon ds per la p. Wh e n th e che ckers lell after 45 minutes of racing. it was Dickson takin g the win with 30 seco nds to spa re. Abayou finished all alone in second. Rob Enriquez worked up fro m h is last-place start lor a well-deserved third, ahead of Larry Page and Matt Harrison. 1.1. Bonanno cap tured yet anothe r win in the 125cc Novi ce class, bu t not wi thou t a great fight fro m fellow Yam aha rider Michael Meadows. Bonanno led the charge through the first turn over Dickson and Mike Gosselaar . By the start 01 . lap two, Meadow s had claw ed his wa y into the runner·up po sition and was pressuring Bonanno . A lap later, Meadows used a fa s ter lin e through a tough whoop section to take the lead . Meadow's reign lasted a coup le of circui ts of the sandy trac k before Bonann o was able to repass lor the lead . The two front -runners soon dis tanced themselves from the pack in a battle tha t wo uld go th e en ti re 45 m inutes 01 the race. Th e h a rd fough t wi n end ed up go ing to Bonanno, with Mead ows a close second. Eric Willis never ga ve up after a d ismal sta rt and was rewarded with a third-place trophy lor his efforts. Todd Gos selaa r, who usu ally competes in the 80cc class, turned in a respectable fourth in one of h is first rides on the b igg er bikes .
