Ann ' Leahy dedicated the race da y to the memory of James Leahy, andthe program got under way. In the first 250cc Pro mo to, Kellog g had to run down Jason Hurtado, who got off to a great start and was leading the way. How ever, a big crash sen t Hurtado back to the pits and left the door wide open for Kellogg to take the win. Keith Campbell was on the gas and placed second in th e fir st moto, b ut a s na p p ed chain derailed his second moto and good finish . Malt Karlson used his speed and some luck for a second overall, while Eric Landis filled the last podium spo t with solid S4 motes. The RMXA is paying back the Women and Over 40 Pros this yea r, and John Shaffer showed his desire for the cash as he banged his wa y by Jeff George for the vic tory . First-mo te winner Hal Stra uss looked strong but a seco nd -mo te DNF killed his d rive. Kim Ne bbia scoo ped up the women's-class money ahead of Pam Cook and Dawn Winczenski Bobby Filch used a borrowed bike to win the 125cc Pro class with a 1-2 mot a sco re. Dave Hams broke out to an ea rly lead in the first moto, although Fitch came back to lake the win. Landis won the second moto with an inspired ride over Fitch, placing himself in second overall. Hams took third w ith a 2-3 score. An awesome battle eru pted in the Vet Pro class as Bryan Curtis (w ho helped build the track) and Darrell Miller (who helped build the track 's structures) diced for local control. In the first mo to, Curtis got out ear ly and set a winning pa ce that could not be matched. Miller kept pushing. but he couldn't reel Curtis in and settled for second . Randy Hocker broke away from the rest of the pack to ta ke thi rd, a n d James Volme r rode to a strong fourth on a track he had never seen before. Th e seco nd moto loo ked like it was all M ill e r' s as he took th e holeshot and p ulled a way, wh il e Curtis w orked h ard to climb through the pack. Miller 's lead was so big that he stop ped doing the can yon doub le jump. Curtis kept doing the jum p and used it to make u p lime on Miller. On the last lap, Miller made two consecutive bobbles, putting Curtis on his heels for the finish.
