Moto one appeared to be Ford's from the beginning as he gated well and snatched the holeshot a way from the rest o f a cla s s filled with talented riders. Foro began to receive some pressure ea r ly on, tho ugh . as the big -b o re. pumpkin-colored KTM of Edward Slack began to challenge Ford and his Honda as the firs t lap leafed completion. A long with Slack, Mark Mari lao o n a Ho nda o u t of Hole shot Mota Accessories also had aspirations o f displacin g Ford, and he set upon the task ahead . Ford was U? to the challenge and weathered the storm as he went on to win the- mota just ahead of Slack. Narilao and a stro ng-finishing Brad Hallahan in k urt h. With the class win on the linc and the scri~ o re rall depending un the fin ishin g p ositiun ~tween him self and Slack, Ford knew his missb n in the seco nd moto wa s to place better na n Slac k· no matter w ha t else t ra n spired . Shc k wa sn't going down easy; he jockey ed for ptSition through the first tum elbo w to elbo w wt h Ford . Fo rd had youth on hi s s id e and ene rged th e leader as the class sorted itseU ou t dning the first lap . Slac k wa s no do ub t d-ained, with this being his fourth mot o of the n gh t a!'! he was doing double du ty, ridin g in btth th e Junior Vet and th e true Vet cla sses. T\e yo u ng ster Ford, who cou ld only rid e in the Cve r 25 cla ss, used th is to h is advantage and bfgan to stretch ou t a slim lea d over Slack and Nari lao, who ag ain sta rted o ff welt and was wi thin s tr iking di st ance. The rid ers ba tt le d fu rd throughout the moto but were not able to ca use h im to fa lte r, ha nding him hi s second mota win of the night. O bviously, Ford's back-ta-back moto wins ea rn ed h im t he o vera ll for t he eve n ing, but more importantly they gave hi m a four·point advantage in the se ries as well as the champio ns hip ti tle. Slack was relegated to seco nd on the nig ht and in the series, while Mari lao settled for thiTd.
