No rthru p , however, turned in an even quicker 3.853 seco nds o n his first run to take that class win. No rthrup' s final win came in the Stock cla ss , whe re he ared the top in 4.095 seco nds on his Y7.25O for c le th e win , with Andy Fort1"lt"r in second place wi th a 4.J5O.sccond run o n a Honda. Mark Goodman picked up wins in the 250cc and 400cc Exhibition classes '. His 4,153-second time on his KX2S0 in the 250cc class was good enough to slip by tbe cu rrent class point leader, Anthony Dcl-iart , who posted a 4.176 -second time o n his Honda. Goodman then turned an even faste r 4JJ23"S4..'COnd time in the 4(K)cc exhi bition on his Kawasaki to again ed ge Del-iart, who was C'l0St" a gain with a 4 .~nd run. Riding a Su z u ki JRSO a utomatic, Matth ews actually cleared the top of the hill, the onl y 50cc auto to ever accomplish this feat. Need less to say, the crowd lo ved it. HI:" took his usual win in the Over 30 class, and he also gr abbed th e 6O(k-,: A win and had his Ho nd a . hold togethe r to take the 250cc A class . Don Mullen was the 2SOcc A leader uff the second tum, OVeT Cory Rot h, Sweeten and Mike Mashewske. As they completed th e fir s t lap, Sw ee ten took co n t rol . Mashewske briefly took the lead , bu t the e xtre me ly wide g roove, espe-d ally for a d aylight clay tra ck , made it dif ficult to tell w hat the exact positions were at times. while Mesbewske st ayed dose to Sweeten. Joe Zydi nsky joined M ullen and Ro th in a close fight for thi rd tha t raged to the end. In the Over 30 class, Sweeten led wire to wire over Ste ve Wilso n, Nic k Taylo r a nd John Henderson . w hile Sweeten ran off and hid, th... o the r three had a dose battle for secon d. Taylor took second a t the end of the fir st lap , bu t Wilson retaliated a lap later and held on to the end.
