With the vlctones, Stephenson pocketed th e lio n's sha re of th e $ 25( Ml purst' and exac ted a measure of revenge on Kansas C ity' s Brian Stone: Stone had defeated Stephenson earlier in the summer to win the big money at a sim ilarly well -paying local even t. " T h is track is p retty mu ch one line ," Stephen son sa id after practice . "I im a gine the start w ill be the key, because it looks like it w ill be hard to pas s tod ay." Stephenson's word s would prove prophetic, as he gra bbed the holeshot in moto on e of 125cc ac tion and rode a pa ce tha t o nly Sto ne could ma tch. Getting out in th ird wa s Brand on Hoff , followed by Trent Hansen , Ca sey McDo well and Ch ris Hunte r. Hoff could not kee p up with the tan de m .of Stephen son an d Sto ne, a nd was getrtng p le n ty o f p re s su re fr om H an sen a n d McDowell. The onl y problem was th a t St.epht'nson got there a littl e sooner from the middle gate. The holeshot again was Stephenson 's; he was followed by Sto ne, Hansen , H u n ter, McDowell and Sco tt Mericl e. By lap three , Stephenson an d Stone had ~t"t a pace that Hansen could no lon ger m at ch , an d he slipped to a four-second defi cit. Rand rails at Dirt Country MX By Jeff Flora BLANCHFSlER, OH AUG. 30 , It was another actio n-packed nigh t a t Dirt Co untry Raceway as local fa vorite G reg Ran d continued his domination of the 125 and 250cc A classes . The fo rmer fa cto ry su pport ride r ha s bee n sho w ing up at th e ra ce track, borr owing a 125 a nd 250, to la ke ho me the firs t-p lace cash. Th e firs t 250ce A mo te was th e highligh t of the evening as Ton y Wiesenha hn led the pack into th e first turn , closely followed by Ja so n Rogers, Jason Waters , Bra d St ru nk a nd Ch uck Reed , w ith Ran d back in ninth. Rand, ho wev er, wasted little time as he moved up to thi rd p lace by the e nd of lap one and continued his drive to ass um e the lead by lap two. Strunk, ano the r forme r fast guy, jumped on Ra nd 's train an d began an aggressive chase to the fron t to take over secon d place soon aft er . By la p three, the battle started to hea t up as Strunk wa s able to pull nex t to Rand in the double-double-double section and nearly make a pJ ss. N evertheless, Rand 's pace wo re Strunk down an d Rand crossed the checkera with a lead of several seconds, follo wed by Stru nk, Reed , Rogers and Wiesenhahn. In m oto tw o, lap one look ed tn be a rematch bet ween Ra nd and Strun k befo re Strunk highsided his CR 2r;(J o ver the "G ravity Cavi ty," ending his chance to take the overall win. Rand then st't his bike on cr ui se con trol as the rest of the pack battled for position be hind him . Reed took over se cond , followed by Ga ry Win ters, Keith Sheldon and the hard -charging Strunk. On lap three, She ld on passed Winters to take ove r third , as did Strunk on lap four to mo ve into fou r th . On the fina l lap , Stru nk was able to pa~s She ldo n to take over third, but co u ldn't catch the vetera n Reed .
