the vlctones, Stephenson pocketed th e lio n's

of revenge on Kansas C ity' s Brian Stone: Stone
had defeated Stephenson earlier in the summer
to win the big money at a sim ilarly well -paying

" T h is track is p retty mu ch one line ,"
Stephen son sa id after practice . "I im a gine the

Stephenson's word s would prove prophetic,
as he gra bbed the holeshot in moto on e of 125cc

By Jeff Flora
BLANCHFSlER, OH AUG. 30
,
It was another actio n-packed nigh t a t Dirt Co untry Raceway as local fa vorite G reg Ran d continued his domination of the 125 and 250cc A classes . The fo rmer fa cto ry su pport ride r ha s bee n
sho w ing up at th e ra ce track, borr owing a 125
a nd 250, to la ke ho me the firs t-p lace cash.
Th e firs t 250ce A mo te was th e highligh t of
the evening as Ton y Wiesenha hn led the pack
into th e first turn , closely followed by Ja so n
Rogers, Jason Waters , Bra d St ru nk a nd Ch uck
Reed , w ith Ran d back in ninth. Rand, ho wev er,
wasted little time as he moved up to thi rd p lace
by the e nd of lap one and continued his drive to
ass um e the lead by lap two. Strunk, ano the r forme r fast guy, jumped on Ra nd 's train an d began
an aggressive chase to the fron t to take over secon d place soon aft er . By la p three, the battle
started to hea t up as Strunk wa s able to pull nex t
to Rand in the double-double-double section and
nearly make a pJ ss. N evertheless, Rand 's pace
wo re Strunk down an d Rand crossed the checkera with a lead of several seconds, follo wed by
Stru nk, Reed , Rogers and Wiesenhahn.
In m oto tw o, lap one look ed tn be a rematch
bet ween Ra nd and Strun k befo re Strunk highsided his CR 2r;(J o ver the "G ravity Cavi ty," ending his chance to take the overall win. Rand then
st't his bike on cr ui se con trol as the rest of the
pack battled for position be hind him . Reed took
over se cond , followed by Ga ry Win ters, Keith
Sheldon and the hard -charging Strunk. On lap
three, She ld on passed Winters to take ove r third ,
as did Strunk on lap four to mo ve into fou r th .
On the fina l lap , Stru nk was able to pa~s She ldo n to take over third, but co u ldn't catch the
vetera n Reed . Rand took the win with eight seconds to spare, followed by Reed , Strunk, Shelp
d nn and Winters,
