In his d ebut with Formula USA , N ielsen Racing' s Ma rk Junge held off Tripl e R Racing's Mar k Reed fur fifth place . Sadowski checked ou t and left a "do not distu rb" sig n at the start/ finish line. During th e race, Sadowski turn ed lap tim es two seconds below his qualifying time and was simply untouchable. "The winning com bina tio n consists of two aspects, " Saduwski sa id. "One, ride smoothly; and seco nd, d on' t make any errors"Thi s track has a lot of traps. lf you try and pick up speed in certa in areas, it will bite you. I just keep aware of th is and try and no t m ake a ny errors." Sadowski followed his philosophy and won by a comfortable seven-second L H .-· a 1;:] - ~ ~ marg in . 30 • Wood tried to reel in Sadowski but was well d uwn on power and settled for second place. "Unfortuna tely, ou r motor is ge tting a little tired and Ski had a little gru nt on me," Wood said. "If Ski has any ad vantage on you, your day is over because he will ex p loi t you r weak nesses . GMD Computrack got the sus pensio n perfect, but suspens io n a lo ne is no t go ing to bea t Ski." "McG ra th was m ak in g so me rni stakes," Fraser sa id . "But it was way too la te to ca tch Eric, and McGrath wa sn 't going away." Fraser didn't get the most beneficial start bu t qu ickl y m ov ed th ro ugh th e field and wa s co ntend ing fur third by lap three. " It took a cou ple of laps to adjust back to the 600 from the Honda 900, and by the time I go t up to speed, the lead ers checked out," Fraser said . "I'm fortunate to put the Carter Hu nda un the box." McGrath, on the o ther ha nd , had third p lace to him self u n til lap four, when Fraser passed him on the brakes entering th e i nfield off of the back straight. "O u r bikes are very close," Reed sa id . " I was able to pass Junge o n th e back straight, but he go t me back. I was getting a little mo re rear-en d slip compared to Jun ge and he stayed in fron t." Junge d id well in his F-USA debut despite problemsgetting his bikedialed in .
