The award w ill be paid to the team owner of the machine and is open only to team s reg istered in the NASB team program . ndy Tresser, 32, of Redwood City, California, suffered fatal injuri es in a crash while practicing for the Augus t 6 running of the Rap id City, South Dakota, Grand National Half Mile at Black Hills Speedway. Tresser' 5 crash occurred in One of th e early pra ctice sess ions for the race. As he exited tu rn four, Tresser's Duc ati 750 appea red to violently lose and then regain.traction jus t befo re he en tered the fron t straightaway. Tresser was th rown off balance and struck th e concrete wa ll (w hich lines the straig htaway) nearly head o n. Tresser was br eathing bu t u ncon sciou s w hen tra cksi d e med ical personnel rea ched h im, a nd h e w as r us hed to Ra pid City Reg ional Hospi tal in Rapid Citywhere he was diagnosed wi th severe head trauma as well as a b rok en left leg . Doctors made attempts to relieve swelling of the brain , b ut those a ttempts w ere u nsuccessful a nd Tresser was p laced on life support until the next morning. At that time, his fami ly made the decis ion to have the equipment turned off, and Tresser was pronounced d ead a t 9 aY'" on Th ursday, August 7. Tresser turned Expe rt in 1990 and had hel d his Natio nal nu mber 91 for the past six yea rs . An accomplishe d sho rt track and IT ra cer , he ra ced a se lec ted Grand National schedule on a limited budget, bu t was always a fixt ure at the Daytona Bike Week, Sturgis Bike Week and Wes t Coast Gra nd Nationals . Tresser had his best Grand Na tional season in 1996, as he realized tw o goals: winning hi s first AMA Grand Na tional (the Peoria TT); and beco ming the firs t rid er ever to pu t a Duca tipowere d moto rcycle in a Gra nd Na tional mai n event , the .occasion takin g pl ace at th e 1996 Rapid City Half Mile, where he fin ished 17th . He ended th e 1996 season ranked 28th in the AMA Grand National Championship Series final standings. In 1997, he defended his Peoria TT cro wn ad m irably by finishi ng third in the main event. Tresser is survived by his father, Car l Tresser: his moth er, Linda Chaput; his brother s, Ca rlo and Ch ristian; his stepmother, jo hanna Tres ser; and his sis ter, Jessica .
