Roth Rules OTHG MX By Chrts 5anchlrtco GORMAN, CA, JUNE I Jim Roth powered his four-stroke CCM to the front of the pack en route to winning both Novice motos for the overall victory in an Over The Hill Gang Motocross at Hungry ValJ~y SVRA. Roth grabbed the holeshot in moto one, followed very dosely by Bruce Criswell and Tom Vladovich. On the first lap, Criswell was able to make an inside pass on Roth, but before the end of lap one, Roth regained control of first. Criswell put iniense pressure on Roth for the remainder of the moto, but Roth defied his attempts to pass to take the win. Meanwhile, an epic battle for third erupted between Vladovich, Mark Jones and Mike Overby, who had come from the back of the pack. After some elbow-toelbow racing, Overby took over third for good, followed by Jones and Vladovich. • Overby gassed his KX to the front at the start of moto two, and was able to stretch out a romfortable lead early in tho! race. Roth held fourth place at end of lap one and set his sights on the lead, but first he had to get by Criswell, who was in second and in position to take the overall Roth was on a mission and able to pass Criswell for second, and was gaining fast on Overby. The last lap was filled with excitement, as Roth caught Overby and was applying intense pressure. Roth worked inside and, in an effort to pass, flew by Overby over a tabletop to take first at the checkers. Overby held onto second, followed by Criswell. In the Over 38 Novic
