GORMAN, CA, JUNE I
Jim Roth powered his four-stroke CCM to the
front of the pack en route to winning both
Novice motos for the overall victory in an Over
The Hill Gang Motocross at Hungry ValJ~y
SVRA.
Roth grabbed the holeshot in moto one, followed very dosely by Bruce Criswell and Tom
Vladovich. On the first lap, Criswell was able to
make an inside pass on Roth, but before the end
of lap one, Roth regained control of first.
Criswell put iniense pressure on Roth for the
remainder of the moto, but Roth defied his
attempts to pass to take the win. Meanwhile, an
epic battle for third erupted between Vladovich,
Mark Jones and Mike Overby, who had come
from the back of the pack. After some elbow-toelbow racing, Overby took over third for good,
followed by Jones and Vladovich. •
Overby gassed his KX to the front at the start
of moto two, and was able to stretch out a romfortable lead early in tho! race. Roth held fourth
place at
end of lap one and set his sights on
the lead, but first he had to get by Criswell, who
was in second and in position to take the overall
Roth was on a mission and able to pass Criswell
for second, and was gaining fast on Overby. The
last lap was filled with excitement, as Roth
caught Overby and was applying intense pressure. Roth worked inside and, in an effort to
pass, flew by Overby over a tabletop to take first
at the checkers. Overby held onto second, followed by Criswell.
