Two-time U.S. National Speedway Champion
Bobby "Boogaloo" Schwartz won the second
round of the 1997 AMA National Championship
Qualifier Series at the Mid-State Fairgrounds in
Paso Robles, California.
Schwartz dropped but a single point on the
evening, and, following up his opening round
sweep at Costa Mesa on May 17th, left the event
atop the overall standings with 47 points.
Opening round wins on the once-a-year Fairgrounds race track went to Schwartz, John

Hedden, Eddie Castro and Mike Faria. The second round of heats saw Northern California's
Bob Hicks, Louis Kossuth, Hedden, and Bart

went to Jerry Black, Aden, Bast, Shawn
McConnell, Faria and Bob Hicks, who ended
Schwartz's perfect run with his win.
The semis started with Aden continuing his

the runner-up race in semi two, and Schwartz
did the same to Bast in one of the night's most.

California Champion on the previous lap. Hedden ended the semis with a win that left Hicks

McConnell got the start off the pole in the
consi and led all the way. Bast and Northrup
