what first aid was needed. The next rider to
arrive was Jason Greer's older brother, George,
who made a beeline to the pits for help the second he saw that Jason was injured. Just as George
Greer was leaving for help, Williams pulled up
and put his EMT sIcills to good use in an effort to
assess Jason Greer's condition. None of the frontrunning riders re-entered the race until George
Greer arrived back at the site with his father, who
took over the efforts to aid the fallen rider.
Several racers had already been directed
around the accident while the leaders were
attending to Jason Greer; thus, the first rider to
find the scoring barrels at the end of lap two was
200cc A-class leader Stephen Edmondson. It
didn't take long for the AA-class duo of Morrison and George Greer to pass Edmortdson'and
make it a two-bike race for the win. The two riders battled back and forth all the way to the finish, with Morrison making the final pass just
seconds before reaching the checkered flag.
George Greer came home in second, while
Edmondson settled for first 200cc A and third
overall. Next in line was White, who crossed the
line a few moments before 250cc A-class winner
Timmy Mitchell in fifth overall. .

Bast plows to Dixon Speedway win
ByM. Sober
DIXON, CA, MAY 31
Harlan Bast Jr. made the most of the rough riding conditions at the new Sideways Saturdays
Speedway venue in Dixon, taking the Scratch
main-event win in convincing fashion over Kelly
Bennett and brother Bart f1ast, while seemingly
ageless veteran Dave Faria showed his adaptability by finishing first in the Handicap main,
ahead of Vacaville's Rick Schaffer. The Second
and Third Division wins went to John O'Connell
and Bill Jarvis.
As most new raring facilities go, so goes the
newest speedway motorcycle track at the Dixon
May Fairgrounds: The new surface still appears
to need some seasoning, and Auburn's own
Haden Bast Jr. seems to be just the rider for the
job. He plowed his way to the Scratch main by
way of wins in both his previoW! Scratch rides.
Not letting his good streak wane, Bast also
found himself on the pole as the Scratch main
rolled to the line for the night's richest race. To
Bast's right, in lanes two through four, sat Bennett, Robert Curry and Bart Bast.
Harten Bast Jr. and Curry were the first off
the line but, going into the first tum, Curry
couldn't get his bike sideways and went wide,
effectively eliminating both himself and Bart Bast
- who was trying to survive a mediocre start
from the outside gate - from contenliorl. Meanwhile, Bennett was looking for a way to chase the
mountain down. Bennett peeked around on the
inside and on the outside, but could not solve the
riddle of how to unseat the world's largest F>rst
Division rider. Bast never made the mistake that
Bennett hoped he would, taking the checkered
flag going away. Bennett hdd onto second, and
Bart Bast recovered to claim third.
Faria used his 20-yard starting position to
maximum advantage as he took over the lead
from la-yard handicapper Rick Schaffer on the
first lap, and never looked back. Harlan Bast and
Robert Curry ran third and fourth.
