Terlecki, Sun shakedown
at Albany Supercross
By Clay Light
ALBANY, OR, MAY 31
RM-mounted Ryan Terlecki, an up-and-<:oming
Oregon Pro who, this season, has scored top-20
finishes in the AMA 125cc West Supercross and
250c( National classes, made his mark on his
return home with the 250cc Pr(rdass win at the
Albany Supercross. Also impressive waS former
AMA 500cc National Motocross Champion
Chuck Sun. Sun rode his Husaberg to 2-1 placings, taking him to the pay window for first
overall in the Over 40 Pro class.
JT Racing/Cycle Trax's Terlecki made short
work of both 250cc Pro contests to win both
motos and take home the purse. Ryan Leach,
another fast local rider, trailed Terlecki both
motos to net second, ahead of Washington's
Scott Steffy. Terry Hamness Jr. was relegated to
fourth in the moto and the overall standings
after Steffy shoved past him in the second moto.
[n moto one of the Over 40 Pro class, Sun
was still in the process of booting the machine
to life when the pack roared away without him.
In a fashion similar to that which carried him to
many AMA victories in the late '70s and early
'BOs (although now a few pounds heavier and
almost twice as old), Sun charged past 22 riders
in the time-shortened moto to close to within
striking distance of moto-one winner Mike
Perry.
In moto two, Sun wasted very little time
jumping into the lead, and maintained it to the
finish. Behind Sun rode Suzuki riders Perry and
Jim Parks, in positions they would hold until
the finish. Terry Hamness and Milt Harden
closed out the top five. Sun went 2-1 for the
win, ahead of Perry's 1-2 for second and Harnness' 3-4 for third.
CR-mounted Dan Reude won both Supermini
BOce-class motos by virtue of his exceptional
starting abilities. Reude held off advances from
RM-rider Tyler Fick in the first moto, and then
built up a tidy lead in moto two, well ahead of
Fick, who yielded to KX-rider Rory Sullivan in
moto two.
