Kell clobbers Castle Rock IT By Clay Light CASTLE ROCK, WA, MAY 25 Grand National number 81, Speedy Kell, put together 15 flawless laps on the infamous CasUe Rock TI racecourse, topping a national-caliber field of Eltperts at the annual O'Brien Racing/ERC Racing Fuels-backed Memorial Day weekend TI. Oregon's Ryan Anderson beat Don Wilson and Eric Rickman to win the first of the three Expert heat races. Rex Fisher got around Jeff Annen to win the second heat, while' Del Schnitzer beat Kell for a win in the third heat race. Eli Price ran away with a win in the Expert semi to also make the final grid, as did the second- and third-place finishers, Jerry Southworth and Steve Pruczinski. Fisher, from Warren, Oregon, sat on the pole position for the Expert main event, but Kell shoved a wheel out front regardless, pulling away convincingly with each lap. Schnitzer also rode a rampant pace to ride a lonely second place, ahead of a sensational five-way battle behind him headed by veteran Wilson, who had Annen, Fisher, Anderson and J.P. Simonsen snapping at his heels. Kell's near-perfect ride was enough for a big win over Schnitzer, while Annen displaced ~ilson to oab third. Fisher, Anderson and Simonsen closely fullowed in that order at the finish. Matt Gomez Sr., one of a multitude of out-ofstaters on hand, won two classes. Gomez's wins came in the Open A and 600cc Pro- Am finals. Dan Kirk and Tony Fox trailed Gomez in the Open A main to finish second and third, respectively, but in the Pro-Am final, Idaho's Steve Arndt, Todd Hagmann and Beau Brown made things tough for Gomez. Robert Rosie looked prime for a win in tile 250cc A main, but a pair of former minicycle speedsters derailed his efforts. Jake Holden stole Rosie's lead early; then an unsuspecting Rosie had Kurt Hawk, who came from row three, nip him across the finish line. Rosie, Eric Beers and Jeff Rister finished third through fifth, respectively. Results EX: 1. Speedy Keil (W*R); 2. Del Schnitzer (Rtx); 3. Jeff Annen (W*R); 4. Don Wilson (Rtx); S. Rex Fisher (Rtx).
