Schnell does well in Lancaster Supercross By Tony Alessi LANCASTER, CA, APR. 26 Team Chaparral's Greg Schnell cashed in with a $2000 payday for winning the 125 and 2SOcc Pro classes during round· one of the Full Blown Promotions. supercross series held at the AV Fairgrounds. Schnell joined nearly 400 other racers who carne in hopes of winning over $140,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs during the five-round series. Schnell seemed to like the single-moto format, which featured a unique twist. "All pros will stop after seven laps," track announcer Mark Neal explained. "Then we will have a restart with the leader being moved .to the back of the field." "That rider will be the only rider eligible for bonus money, which is $150 for every rider he passes during the last seven laps: The l2See race saw Schnell as the leader after the first seven laps, but even more impressive was the fact that Schnell repassed every rider on the track after the restart and won the second half as well, topping Steve Andrich and Doug . Parsons. The 250cc race was a repeat perfonnance for Schnell, who once again won the first seven laps and repassed the entire field during the last seven laps to post a grand-slam victory. At a rate of $150 for each pass combined with wins in both classes, it was nothing short of a lucrative evening for Schnell who bagged nearly $2000 in cash for his night of racing. . Billy Payne was the top 125cc Intermediate rider, posting wins in both motos over hardcharging Andrew Labrador and Lanny Turner. Payne was one of the few amateurs to loft his Team Green Kawasaki over the 90-foot double jump positioned in front of the grandstands, bringing the fans to their feet on almost every lap. Team Suzuki's Shane Bess came out on top of a three-way battle in the Mini Experts after two !"Ieated motos of racing. 60 (0-8): 1. Edward Herring (Kaw~ 2. Bob Cobb (Kaw). 60 (9+11): 1.
