Nash brothers win big in Sacto Motocross By Dick Archer SACRAMENTO, CA, MAY 3 Chino, California's Tim and Chris Nash were both double-moto winners, dominating the brunt of the day's action at round two of the Evoilltion of Motocross Series on the Hangtown track at Prairie City SVRA in Sacramento. . The turnout was light, but the racing was heavy duty in the 500 masters class as Tim ash quickly recovered from poor starts in both motos and by lap two grabbed the lead and never looked back. Vintage Iron's Rick Doughty punched out stinging holeshots in both motos, but Nash - aboard his '81 Maico 490 - worked his way to the front and from there was never challenged. Santee, California's Greg Carter was the only one able to keep Nash in sight and finished second with a pair of seconds. Doughty, meanwhile, salvaged third. Meanwhile, Chris Nash was busy beating up on the 2SOcc Sportsman class as he motored his 1979 Honda CR2SO to victory in both motos over Kirk Barnett and Tim Hunter. And in the SOOcc Sportsman class, Randy Lester was also a double-moto winner as he wrestled with Maicomounted Paul Needers and CZ rider Pete Porter in both motos. The series continues with round three at Glen Helen. Results MSTR 250: I.Joe Casey (Hon). MSTR 500: 1. Tim Nash (Mal); 2. Greg Carter (Mal); 3. Rick Doughty (Mai). SJ7TSMN 250: 1. Little wins big at Quail Canyon MX By Tony Alessi HUNGRY VALLEY, CA. MAY 4 Mike Little powered his Racer's Edge-backed Suzuki to victory in both the 250cc and Over 30 Novice classes during round one of the sse Castaic Brick Spring Nationals held at the Quail Canyon OHV race area. Suzukis seemed to fill almost every start gate, perhaps fueled by the temptation of manufacturing contingency up for grabs from American Suzuki. In addition to the contingency, race promoter Shane Trimer put a program together with participating Southem California Suzuki dealers "If you buy parts from any of our Suzuki dealers that sponsor this series, we give you $5 for every $25 you spend" Triftler said "So if you spend $125 you basically get a free entry". Mike Little held no hostages today by capturing all four moto wins in both the 2S0cc ovice and Vet Novice classes. Little battled. in the first 250cc Novice race with jeff DelVillar, but prevailed in the end. In the second moto Little mixed it up with the like of·Steve Piaftoi.and Tony Sulli. The results were all to familiar with Little leacting the Suzuki trio across the line for the top spot on the podium. Sh1lne Leyden leveled the Vet Beginners to the delight of his very excited sister, who served as the family cheerleader during the day's races. Leyden rode circles around Phil Kuhn and Jack oyes while Randy journey and Jim Roth rounded out the top five. (Above) Rick Doughty (2) gets the quick start In the Evolution of MX Series round In Sacramento, California, but Tim Nash (19) ended up winning the race.(Right) Oscar Valdez topped the 12Scc Intermediate class In the first round of the SSC Castaic Brick Spring Nationals In Hungry Valley, California. Suzuki USA contingency rep Cole Gress gave it a good run in the 250cc Intermediate class, but in the end he played second fiddle to jason Wood of Ojai. Wood piloted his AXO/CE- backed Suzuki to a two-moto sweep of the class. Twelve-year-old Gerard Patin on a Siaminbacked Yamaha took the overall win in the USee BeginJ:'er class over Shane Leydenski and a hard-<:harging Chris Barrett. In the 125cc ovice class Brady "The Bullet" Lambert leveled the competition in the first moto with a wire-ta-wire victory. The second moto looked like a repeat in the making but a broken clutch relegated Lambert third behind Mike Miller and the day's champ Joel NeJson. Results P/W: 1. Cole Seely (ACT); 2. APR. 20 Yamaha of Kingsport's Kevin Walker is the hottest rider in the Southeast lately and Camp Coker MX's most recent round of the AMA USA MegaSeries only provided more evidence of that. Walker walked off with a perfect six-moto win score to meltdown the 125 A, 2SO A and 25+ A classes. Walker is the 1996 Mega5eries champion in all thrJ!O classes and since Coker was a double points race, he has a good jump on a repeat this season. Rider turnout was a bit down for this race at 381, aanrding to MegaSeries promoter Sam Gammon. "The Charlotte Supercross was last night, and many of OUI riders were there, either competing or in the stands,.. . explained Gammon. "From all reports, nobody got home before 2:30 or 3:00 this morning, then decided to skip Sunday's race which was 6S miles away." Not to take anything away from Walker, though. He was raised on sand trac.ks and loves the Coker course. Also, he was up against stiff competition in Jon Boruff, Billy Liles and District 29 regulars David Price and Mark Wagner (another newcomer to the A classes this year). Liles pressured Walker in 25 + A and bested Ron "Wirehead" Jones to take the victory in 30 + A. Jones rode three classes and besides earning runner-up honors to Liles in 25 + A, he traded wins with Steve Lewis in 35 + Oones) and 40 + Senior (Lewis). johnny Gibson filled out the 40 + podium and third in 35 + went to Anderson, SC's Mark Ashworth. Other double winners included KTM· mounted jamie McCoy (25 + B, 30+ B), Clark McAlister (2S0 C and Unlimited CoD) and joshua Summey (8Sec (1 2-13), Super Mini). Results 5O(U~ 1.
