Nlc Man· ® SANCTIONED PRO MX NATIONALS PROMOTED BY MOTOCROSS' 338 SOUTHWICK Bigelow blasts at BUlldogs Motocross SATURDAY, JUNE 21, 1997 By Ray Woods MASSACHUSETTS Technical Inspections MlLUNcroN, MI, APR. 5 Kipp Bigelow was back" in action at the third round of the Spring Fling Series held at Bulldogs M/C , Michigan, winning the Over 35 class. The start of the first moto saw Bigelow on his K&W Vamaha leading, but right on his fend- . er was Tech Care Suspension's Dave Bowman, followed by 911 MX Shop's Larry Wilmer, Mall Horrocks and John Love. Bowman came close to making the pass several times only to be rejected by the ever-steady Bigelow on the power-robbing, sandy course. Halfway through the moto Horrocks began to pressure ·third-place Witmer as the · two rode close to the edge, while Love ran a steady fifth. Just before the white flag Bowman made a strong move on Bigelow, but a couple of tank-slappers in the deep whoops · sent him to the ground. Witmer and Horrocks would make their way around the downed Bowman grabbing on to second and third, respectively. With just one lap to go, Horrocks was all over Witmer looking to take over second, giving him a shot at the overall, but he caught a rut and crashed into Witmer, canceling both of them out just before the checkers. A very happy Bowman would retake second with just 100 yards to go to the flag, while an angry Witmer would remount for third. Horrocks and Love would claim fourth and fifth, respectively. . Bigelow ran off with another h'lleshot in moto two as rain began to drench the alreadywet track. This didn't slow Bowman though, as he continued where he left off in the first moto with his relentless allacks on Bigelow. On the third lap, Bowman pulled alongside but Bigelow wouldn't give it. up, protecting the inside line through each comer. For ,the next three laps the two were never more than a bike length apart as they opened up an eight-second lead over a tiring Witmer and Horrocks. When the checkered fell it was Bigelow with his first win of season over Bowman, with Witmer third and Horrocks hanging on for fourth. Love claimed fifth. '"1 missed the white flag and was never hap· pier than to see the checkered," Bigelow said after the race. "I haven't done a lot of training or riding this year and don't know if [ could have held offDave (Bowman) another lap." Iilnults 125 A: 1. Nicholas Wey (Kaw); 2.
