(Below) Billy Rich (61) moved up to win both 125cc C-class motos over Scott .Mitchell (133) at Bremen MX In Georgia_ By Dennis Suter LANCASTER. CA, APR. 6 Brad Holt fought off Tom Horton to win the Modem Vintage 250cc event at the Ray Hensley Memorial Vintage Flat Track at Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. Race promoter Horton led the race off the line, Don Frauenberger and Holt following. Holt got a great drive down the back straight and passed Frauenberger in tum three on the second lap. Holt slid under Horton in tum four on lap five, and a drag race to tum one went in Holt's favor. On the seventh go-round Horton tried Holt on the outside of tum two, but Holt held on for the checkers. A full field of Modem Vintage 7SOs took the starter's flag with Eddie Mulder getting a great start on his Triwnph Trackmaster. jeff Johnson from Rialto caught local rider Mulder on the fourth lap and slipped under Mulder on lap seven to win the eight-lap big-bore feature. Another local, Pete Hames, won the large Bomber class on a Harley~Davidson 600. Classic 500 had nine machines on the line and H appeared Gary Davis and his Gold Star were in for some competition from the small Triumph twin of Tom Horton. After one lap of side-by-side action the twin broke and Davis had an easy time of it. The Oassie 250cc race was easily the best race of the day. Jim McMurren's Harley-Davidson led the field to tum one with Horton on a four-stroke Honda twin next. Matt Hilgenberg was next on a Suzuki X6, but Rich Trait on an Ossa took that spot before turn three. Trait passed Horton at the stripe on lap three and Hilgenberg did the same on lap four. The fifth lap found Trait on the outside of McMurren in turns three and four but McMurren held into one. where they were joined by Hilgenberg. On lap seven the X6 pulled Hilgenberg down the back straight past Trait's Ossa. Hjlgenberg slid to the outside of McMurren in four and had his front wheel up to the Harley-Davidson's seat at the finish line. After john Dupree slapped the back-straight wall in the 250cc Pro heat race, most thought his racing for the night was over. ·But Dupree borrowed another bike for the feature and passed Don Frauenberger on the fifth lap for the lead. The excitement was not over, though, as the lights went out on lap 11 when the electric generating plant had a temporary malfunction. The race was called with winner Dupree leading Frau.enberger and Brad Holt. Two fonner National regulars who competed at Ascot in the early '70s, Peluso and Horton, renewed their rivalry in the Over 35 class. Peluso led from the line, with Horton dose behind. Horton ducked inside on the eighth lap and held on for the win over Peluso. Steve Hensley brought a big Triumph twin in for a nice thirdplace finish. Results MORN VlNT250: 1. Tom Horton; 2.
