Mayfield shot around the pack in the first tum and cruised to victory on the somewhat bumpy track. Behind Mayfield the battle for the runner-up spot heated up with Andy Tresser victorious after executing several inside passes to overcome a second-row start. "Setup wasn't too different compared to normal," Mayfield said after his victory, "We used a tittle less air pressure and were off a couple of clicks on the shocks. J got a good start and rode my own race, The last few laps was when I really felt the pressure. I didn't know who was back there, but I had a good idea. I didn't want to do anything stupid, so if he was going to pass me he'd have to do it on his own." . Mark Corsetti won the Pro-Am Expert Short Track race with room to spare over an absolute war for second place. Kevin Bricker, Rob Damron, Mayfield and Tresser fought lap after lap with Bricker edging out Damron at the checkered flag. "We set the bike up ,vith a long wheelbase and low tire pressure," said Bricker after his heat race, "We're getting prepared for the big pro race here in two weeks. It's going to be greal." Pee Wee C rivals Bobby Fong and Sean Jones dusted the competition in both the short track and IT. Second-place Jones feU in the hairpin in the IT main and still m.maged to finish second. Five-year-old Daniel McDaniel, in only his second week of racing, finished second in the Pee Wee Stock short track and IT competition. Matt Gomez Jr. charged from behind to pass Danny Casey in the 80cc A short track, then held off a challenge by Brandon Inderbitzen. Gomez then smoked the competition in the IT main by winning with a margin of over half a straightaway. Hard-charging Tony Heiring continued his winning ways, with short track victories in the 125/250cc A/B combined race, and 125cc TT classes. Heiring is now 12 for 15 in MO weeks of racing.
