Carter untouchable at
Daniel Boone MotoCross
By Susan S. Willian
LONDON, KY, MAR. 29
J.R. Carter was unstoppable in his wins in the
Supennini and 80cc 14- to 15-year-old classes at
the SkorBordz Mudd-off Motocross at the
Daniel Boone Motocross facility.
Despite a crash in the first tum of the Supermini qualifier, Carter weaseled through the pileup to be the front-runner. Carter was untouchable and remained first to the finish line. Devon
Hedrick rode in second the entire moto as Justin
Jones tried unsuccessfully to catch him. Derrick
Young rode in fourth until the final lap when
Robbie Gray charged by to claim the spot, relegating Young to fifth.
Jones shot off the gate in the main event.
with Carter in second. Carter regained his
composure as he passed Jones midway
through lap one. Hedrick fell on the first lap
and dropped to the rear of the pack. Carter
traveled around the course with a comfortable
lead as a battle evolved for second between
Jones and Christopher Heath. As the final lap
neared, Carter went down but quickly
remounted allowing Jones and Heath an
opportunity to clos.e the distance to him.
Carter held on for the win as the checkered
waved, while Jones claimed the runner~up
honors over Heath.
Team Green/Suspension Plus-backed Ben
Riddle aced three classes as he claimed wins in
the Unlimited Amateur, Schoolboy and 12Sec B
classes.
In the 125cc A class, Adam Vaughn got the
jump off the gate in the main event chased by
Joey Belmont, Larry Gessner and Christopher
Berry in a tight group. Belmont passed
Vaughn in the whoops for the lead and Berry
moved into second as Gessner dropped to
fourth.
More troubles awaited ·Gessner as he went
over the handlebars in a crash and had to
straighten his handlebars before taking off
again, taking the heat off Vaughn in third place.
Gessner was on the gas again, though, and on
the final lap caught back up to Vaughn and 'was
challenging for third. Racing side-by-side on the
uphill, Vaughn held Gessner off to take third.
Belmont held on for the class win ahead of
Berry in second.
