challenging Supercross-style obstacles. Much
thought was put into the track and grounds,
with a splendid scoring tower, concession
stands, plenty of trash cans and outhouses, and
ample parking. The races went very well, with
excellent announcingl and a large turnout of
Baggers.

HOLLISTER, CA, MAR. 23
Kenny Hoess took the overall win in the 12Sec
Novice class at the opening round 01 the 1997
AMP/Yamoha 01 Modesto/YOKO Spring Series
at HaJJjster Hills.
Nick McBride won the first moto alter getting by early leader Ra'ndy Norman. Hees
worked his way around Norman on the final lap
to take second. Norman held on to third, 101lowed by Mark Verhougstraete and jefl Borchard in fifth.
Quick-starter Norman pulled the holeshot
in the second moto with Aaron Mason;
McBride, Heess and John Carrilli in tow. Carrilli, who had finished ninth in the first moto
was determined in the second moto and
sneaked by the field to take over first. Carilli
was gone and wouJd never be headed to the
finish.
The real action was behind Carilli as both
McBride and Heess got by orman for second
and third, respectively. The overall win was up
for grabs, and McBride and Heess both knew
that whoever of the two finished in front of the
other would bag the overall. McBride's firstmoto win gave him the advantage and Heess
knew it.
The two riders would fight tooth and nail on
every straightaway and every turn. Heess
would stick a wheel inside McBride in one corner and then try to rail the outside in the next
comer to keep McBride guessing where his next
move would come from. McBride was up to the
task, though, as he held his position. It looked
like McBride would be successful in his secondmoto effort but in a hairpin tum, McBride got a
little out of shape and that was all Heess needed
to get by.
McBride got right back onto Heess' fender
but could not make the pass. Heess' 2-2 was
good enough for the overall win lollo~ed by
McBride with a 1-3 in second overall and Norman in third with his 3-4.
