VOICES LmERSTO THEEDfTOR Captured audience Every since I was a young lad with a love for wheelies, nothing could stop me from wheelying my Schwinn Stingray except a grand event that transpired each Thur day at Hill Top tiquor: the delivery of Cycle News. Twenty-five years later, Cycle News is still a great part of my life. I am currently serving time in federal poson at Terminal Island for mail fraud (l didn't do it). Each day at 4 p.m., inmates line up waiting impatiently for letters from their loved ones while I wait impatiently for my Cycle News subscription. What a delight to have the events and results at my fingertips each week. I feel that same childish rush of excitement today when my Cycle News arrives. As a matter of fact, Cycle News is of such importance to me that [ use each weekly is ue as a barometer to measure my day of release. 1 am just 19 issues of Cycle News away from getting out of here. Terminal Island would be unbearable without a Cycle News to keep me informed on this year's wild supercross events. Question: If you were stranded on an island, what two things would you wish for? Answer: A bible and a Cycle News. Dan Caterino San Pedro, CA Emig is King ot to downplay the final race of the season, but it looks as if anything short of a major disaster will crown Jeff Emig King. This most exciting season not only produced a new winner, but left the door wide open for many strong contenders in this year's outdoor Nationals as well as supercross next year. 1 believe that all race fans are drooling for what's to come this summer and next year. With such obvious favorites \,S McGrath and Emig, the new powerLetters to the editor should be sent to Voices, Cycle ews, P.O. Morris round of the AMA ational Motocross Championship. 1 want to let Greg Albertyn know that he has improved tremendously in supercross. Unfortunately, he's not in the points hunt, but I think his spirits and confidence should be at an all-time high. If he can harness his supercross skills into his outdoor abilities and implement them into the outdoor series like Jeff Emig and Jeremy McGrath, he will wax 'em. John Wright Hickory, NC Wanting GPs on TV We must revolt. 1 live in the Pacific Northwest and have been on a very active campaign to get TCI Cable to carry Speedvision. I went to the trouble of spending a Saturday at the local motorcycle shops, where I collected 60 signatures on a letter asking TCI to carry Speedvision. I have yet to see any sign that the company has heard me and each time I call to see if the channel has been added, the operator who handles requests informs me that she has never heard of this channel. The first Grand Prix of the season has come and gone and the only way 1 can see to get the cable companies to listen is to call them on a regular basis. If enough of us call on a weekly or even daily basis, maybe we can get our channel. So let's start dialing. Wade McQueen Ashland, OR Vosburg says... In response to all the negative press you are giving Vosburg Racing and KTM, it would have been better journalism had Cycle News contributor Matt Freeman and loyal Greg Zitterkopf fan Tom Gill given us a call to see if maybe we had something to add to the article and editorials (letters... Editor) they were writing for the April 30 issue of Cycle News. I believe your readers deserve facts from both sides as everyone knows there are two sides to every story. Le~ me start by saying that Vosburg Racing is a young team with lots to learn. We certainly don't claim to be a "Team Green." We can only aspire to be that good some day. As to Tom Gill's comment about Greg's bike "blowing up again" at the Adelanto race, I'm sorry, Tom, but that's the first time Greg ever seized his 360 KTM. 1 wonder if Ty Davis will possibly be riding a Honda since his Kawasaki seized at Tonopah? Speaking of Tonopah, Destry Abbott rode Vosburg's Pro Circuit KTM up front all day and finished third overall with help from Scot Harden of KTM. Tom Gill might find it hard to swallow, but Greg Zitterkopf did quit the team on March 18, a week and a half before the Tonopah 300. As long as Tom is swallowing hard, his remarks about Destry riding his dad's 250 KTM is also wrong. The bike belongs to KTM. Maybe Destry just wanted to show off his number-one plate he won in the 1996 National Hare & Hound Series 250cc class on the same KTM. Tom Gill also forgot to tell KTM's.Nick Pearson that Zitterkopf was the only rider to give Ty Davis a run for his money. See the article regarding round three of the series on page 36 of the April 30 edition of Cycle News. I don't think there is anything to be gained by discussing our contract differences with Greg Zitterkopf in Cycle News. This will all be done by arbitrators and we will be glad to let Matt Freeman and Tom Gill know how it turns out. Gary Vosburg Las Vegas, NV . Maybe Ri<;ky Carmichael will think 125s are too easy and will race a 250. We will see more new faces (and more new talent) on the podium than ever before. Thanks to an exciting season, supercross/motocross is finally getting a small percentage of the recognition that the sport deserves. Who knows, with a little more support from such great sponsors a I-BOO-Collect, who is paying for prime-time spots featuring McGrath, we may sit down to watch "Saturday ite Supercross" or "On Any Sunday at the' Nationals" the same way that Monday Night Football is observed. In the meantime, we'll all enjoy what will be a very exciting National circuit and eagerly anticipate the 199B Supercross Series - a season that should not only be enjoyed by racers but by fans of great competition. Supercross/motocross is indeed the greatest sport in the world. Dave Jacobs Pinole, CA America's weekly motorcycle newspaper Team Rainey Yamaha's Wayne Rainey, Norifumi Abe and Sete Gibernau.
