Record turn out at
Rhino Rally
Hare & Hound
By J.e. Martinez
ST. GEORGE, UT, FEB. 22
When the Motorcycle Racing Association of
Nevada (MRAN) and the Utah 5tate Riders
Association (USRA) decided to merge for a
fouI-race points series no one had any idea
what was in store, especially the promoting
club, Wizards Me. This USRA club assembled
the annual Rhino Rally Hare & Hound and
were overwhelmed with over 500 racers on
race day.
Three waves, with well over 100 racers
each, aimed toward the smoke bomb waiting
for the respective starts. When the start banner
dropped, each wave of bikes fought for position looking for the course beyond the bomb.
Amateurs were fortunate enough to have a
huge section of barbed-wire fence removed
courtesy of the Expert row, who ripped it
down.
The Expert and Amateur classes should be
grateful that .they didn't star! with the Novices,
that start was absolute mayhem with riders
doing cartwheels, flips, and ejections' of every
kind as they approached the first road crossing.
Most of these racers either fell off the first berm
or flipped over the second:
The pack continued on its way, seeking
markings of any kind, battling never ending
dust and each other. It all came down to who
got out of Ihe dust firsl and fed it to the resl, as
well as, those who could just plain ride in it.
Mati Gosnell proved he could handle it as he
rode to 52rtd overall and fU"S1 Amateur.
