A record nwnber of riders competed at the season opener at Bluegrass Motocross Park as a
newly designed track with a changed starting
area and additional jumps. Doug Gall claimed
victory in two classes as he rode in his first competition since breaking his leg at opening day
la~t year. Gall went 1-1 in the Schoolboy and
12See Bclasses.
Gall stormed by Dusty Walker, who had
snagged the holeshot in molo ooe of the Schoolboy. class, to take the lead in lap one and cruise
to an uncontested win. The second moto was no
contest as Gall dominated the entire moto for
the class win.
Gall had to work a tittle harder in the l25cc B
class as Jim Rea:. led the pack chased by Daniel
Graham and Gall. By lap three, Gall made his
move to the front and was unstoppable as he
continued to the checkered. Graham finished
second with Walker claiming third.
O'Neal/FNV-backed Robby Cook fired off
the line in moto one of the l25cc A class action
with Suspension Plus-sponsored Jimmy Brooks,
Paul Karle and Larry Gessner following. Karle
quickly moved into second and closed in on
Cooks.
By the second lap of racing, Karle took
charge to pull away from the field for the win.
Brooks took a DNF after a spectacular crash.
Gessner passed Cook in a side-by~side, mid air
maneuver when he o4ljumped Cook to move
into second at the checkers. Cook settled for
third.
Karle was beller prepared off the gate in
moto two as he secured the front spot immediately. 11 was no contest for Karle as he rode to the
finish and chalked up the moto win for the overall victory. Gessner took the second spot right off
the gate with Cook in tow, and they remained in
that order to the finish. Karle took the overall
win with Gessner second and Cook third.
