Frank Rodgers By Matt Hilgenberg TULARE, CA, FEB, 22-23 ave Brosky posted a clean sweep over the 18-rider 250cc Novice class at round two of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association West Regional MX Series, held at Tulare Cycle Park. The motocross was day two of Triple M Promotions' twiceannual "Double Your Fun Weekend." Saturday was open-traction TI day on the beautiful purpose-built track adjacent to the MX circuit. Honda-mounted Brosky held a clear advantage during the day, his 1-1 mota scores besting the 2-4 finishes of Joel Hanson, who was followed by Robert Sarnpaulesi (5-2) and Brent Cain (4-3). Nineteen riders entered the Over 40 Novice class, and it was Dennis Wainwright on a Bultaco who took the win, riding with the speed of an Intermediate. Wainwright was uncontested in the first outing, but could only manage a third after difficulties in mota two, Second went to Visalia's Mike Allison,' with Stu Cardott taking third aboard a Triumph twin. Rob Poole piloted his BSA Gold Star to a perfect score in Premier 500cc Expert, while new Experts John Huegel and Kelly £hane traded runner-up finishes behind him. Husky-mounted Troy Smalley was another rider with a perfect day, topping the Over 30 Intermediates over Louis Harker's CZ and the Honda of Rod Dunivent. The open-traction TT drew 95 entries, and produced some great racing. Co-promoter Steve Monger and track announcer Craig Howard raced D hard in both the heat and main event in the 500cc Expert class. Monger narrowly came out on top each time, with Howard clipping'a hay bale and losing his rear brake pedal while chasing in second with just a few laps to go. Tom Horton was third, Curtis Fournier finished second to Frank Rodgers in the 250cc Intermediate heat race, then returned to win th,e main aboard his Honda. Rodgers was second, ahead of fellow Yamaha rider Steve Brown. Triumph single rider Rick Rogers took advantage of heat-race victor Marty Weisler not making the call in the main to win the 500cc Novice class. Bultaco pilot John Pischke was second, ahead of Keith Wilson. Tulare Cycle Park Tulare, California , Results: February 22-23 1T PREM 500 EX, 1. Rob Poole (BSA); 2. Mall Hilgenberg (Ric).
