r NTY-backed Michael Peacock finished third, saying, "I thought 1 could run the race with Caleb and Andy. We all had a good line, but they were just faster than me." Moto two saw a stronger and faster Leath leave the gate with the holeshot and never looked back. "Man, this bike is the fastest bike I've ever ridden," Leath said. "I got the holeshot and never wanted to look back. I think I kind of' went bonsai to get ahead, but I'm really happy with my win." New Mexico's Travis Hodges finished second, saying from the podium, ''I'm almost ready to call it a day. The comer before the whoops is tough, but I'm going to keep trying to master it. I'm ready for my last moto in the 2505." Third-place finisher, Isaiah Johnson, said, "I had to battle with Travis (Hodges) and I tried to hang with him. The track is getting a little bit rough." The 250cc Pro races brought the crowds to the fence again as Billy "The Bull" Whitley and D.L. Wood shot off the gate into the first· turn. Whitley caught D.L. early in the race but then had to work to pull from the rest of the pack. Isaiah Johnson latched on to Whitley's draft and got around him through the whoops. Then Hodges carne up on Johnson and began to give it his all for the number-two place, and he soon got him. "I had a pretty good start," Johnson said. "I didn't know that Travis was behind me. I got a little tired. The whoops are a little slick going into them, but I just love this track." "Me and Isaiah ride a lot together back home," fellow ew Mexican Hodges said. "We're good buddies and I like racing with him. But I couldn't get Whitley to make any mistakes." A smiling Whitley, said, ''I'm really out of shape, but I think I have the advantage by not riding the 125 Pro class and having more time to rest between my motos." Wood holeshot the second moto again, but it didn't take The BulIlong to catch him. "I did a great job off the start," Whitley said. "D.L. got me in the first turn, but I was able to square it off and get it back in the next tum. He's getting good starts. He must be taking after his sister (referring to Dee Ann Wood)." Johnson, once again, got in behind Whitley and chased him for three laps before a crash at the bottom of the mountain took him out of contention. Johnson was able to remount, but left the course with an injured shoulder. Hodges took advantage of Johnson's absence and moved up a slot to second. "It was pretty fun," Hodges said. "I wish I could have put more pressure on (Top) Andy Bowyer (8) grabs the holeshot In the first 125cc Pro motoand went on to win the race, but Caleb Leath took the overall. (Above) Levi Gilliam (7), winner Luke Bledsoe (39) and Bradley Graham (40) were the top three finishers In the SOcc Modified (7-8) class. (Right) Shawn Smith (42) went 1-2 for the overall win In the 250cc Stock Intermediate class. Billy but just couldn't reel him in. He held a good pace. Once I passed D.L. and then moved into second I just couldn't pull him. Leath spotted the podium in third, saying, "I think I got a top 10 start. I wish I had a better first moto, but I'm really happy with my performance this weekend." Leath finished with a 6-3 for third overall. Teddy Maier controlled the younger 80cc group, winning both the 80cc (7-11) Stock and Modified classes. "I didn't ride as well as I wanted in the first motos, but I did better in the second ones," Maier said. Women's World Champion Dee Wood also took a couple of titles home, winning the Ladies event, as well as the 25+ Intermediate division. Also winning two titles was 80cc (1416) class rider Adam Mennenga. Mennenga took the wins in both the Stock and Modified division. "This is my first National Championship," he said. "I worked really hard and tried to stay ahead." Action Attack-mounted Joseph Marburger won the 50cc Stock and Modified (4-6) divisions.
