Upcoming Rounds: Round 8 - Madrid, Spain, March 14 Round 9· ParislBercy, France, March 15 AHRMAISpeed &Sport National Trials Series, Round 2 Andrews comes clean By Matt Benson OCALA, FL, MARCH 6 ick Andrews won his two world trials titles in the era of the lightweight two-stroke,. riding an Ossa. But at Ocala he showed he is equally capable on a big four-stroke, as he lost just nine marks for the day at the controls of a 1960 BSA 500. What made the Brit's ride even more remarkable was that he chose to use the same line that was assigned to the best riders on AHRMA's newest trials machines - Bultaco Sherpa Ts, Montesa Cotas, Yamaha TYs and, yes, even Ossa Mick Andrews Replicas, from the midto late 1970s - rather than the slightly easier line designated for Premier Heavyweights like the BSA Alloy Clipper Andrews was riding. Had Andrews been entered in Modern Classic Expert with that newer Spanish and Japanese iron, his score of nine would have been good for a solid second place. Bob Ginder and crew laid out eight wooded sections full of round, roily rocks, loose leaves and short, steep climbs. The 50 entrants rode each section three times in tempera tures in the M rnid-80s. Wherever Andrews was, there was a sizable clump of spectators marveling at just how smoothly he could ride the BSA, on loan from dirt-riding legend Barry Higgins. Unlike other AHRMA competitors (but very much like another Bike Week guest of a couple years back, trials great Sammy Miller), Andrews would carefully manicure his intended route through each section, moving rocks and brushing away leaves and sticks with his feet. Andrews dabbed just once in each of the first two loops, then lost seven marks the third time around - no doubt attributable to the heat, humidity and hard work of muscling the big Beezer through obstacles intended for far more nimble machinery. Had Andrews ridden in his class, he would have been up against an excellent ride by series sponsor Matt Hilgenberg. The Californian lost only three marks in Wood wins with Maxum4 1st Place NASB/EBC 600cc Sport bike Daytona Beach, FL-March 2nd 1997 Eric Wood and his Maxum4 lubricated Kawasaki out performed all other competitors, proving that for protection and performance, there is no other 4-cycle oil that even comes close to Maxum4...
