Sellards was after a perfect night with a 250cc win, but he was going to have to work for it. Carsten grabbed the holeshot ahead of eese, Sweat and Sellards. Dunaway and Mike Katin on the Kames' Sports Yamaha also were near the front. By the third lap, Sellards was stalking Sweat, looking for a way to pass, and Dunaway had opened up a lead on Katin and was reeling in the Sweat/Sellards battle. Sellards was hanging it out and he outjumped Sweat through the grandstand whoops to take over third. Dunaway moved up on Sweat's rear wheel by lap five and he block-passed Sweat in the turn at the end of the Bud: weiser whoops. Sellards kept charging and he was able to make up time on the leaders as the top three began to lap the, field. Sweat's luck turned sour' .on tht ninth lap when he stalled his bike in the whoops, falling out of the top 10. j Carsten had problems with lapped riders, and Neese and Sellards caught him with about two laps to go. Sellards outgunned Neese over the step-up double at the end of the grandstand 'whoops, and then Sellards set out after the leader. As they took the white flag, Sellards was only 20 feet behind Carsten. Sellards and Carsten were handlebar to handlebar over the step-up, bul Carsten controlled the inside line. SATURDAY When the gate dropped for the 12Sec Pro race, Sellards and Shae Bentley put the Team Green Kawasakis up front, ahead of Eastside Suzuki's Tommy Collier and Jim Neese. Carsten and Pro Circuit-backed Charlie Dunaway were mired back in the pack, but they were taking advantage of the large arenacross track to move toward the front. Sellards·cleared the long triple on the first lap to open up a lead over Bentley, who doubled, and ran off to a convincing win. Bentley matched Sellards' pace for the whole race, but the FMF/FOX rider couldn't catch Sellards. With the top two positions secured and Jim's Cycle Sales/Pro Action- backed Neese holding firm in third, the huge crowd cheered on the battle for fourth. After that I just tried to stay smooth." Mark Burkhart, Josh DeMuth, Joe Oehihof and Mike Morgan rounded out the top 10.
