starting line, but Richtrneyer refused to
be denied. He ran just behind Gibson
and Ragan for the first three laps before
threading his way past the two frontrunners and pulling far out front. Gibson also passed Ragan and attempted to
reel in Richtmeyer, but there was no .
catching him. Richtmeyer built up a
huge advantage that dwindled only
slightly as he took the checkered flag for
his second straight Open Pro Twins victory. According to Richtmeyer, there
was a reason that Gibson was able to cut
the lead.
"On the last five laps, the brake
pedal went away," Richtmeyer said. "I
had to pay attention. I want to thank
Steve Morehead and the VDTRA for
putting on these races. This is a real
good time."

vival for Fred Schritt. The Nebraskan
ran second in the early part of the eightlap final before chasing down leader
Tom Robertson. Schritt then managed to
put some distance on both Robertson
and Jon Harding before appearing to
experience some sort of mechanical difficulty on his immaculate Trackrnaster
Triumph as the race drew to a close.
Harding cut the gap down to nothing as
the white flag flew, but Schritt gutted it
out and crossed the line first for the win.
Schritt was not quite as lucky later in the
night as the Triumph gave up the ghost
in the Open Twins Amateur feature,
which was won by Russell Briggs.
Richtrneyer was back for more in the
250cc Pro class, and he put in another
incredible charge as he blasted from
fourth to first on the opening lap and
then pulled away from Snyder before
settling into a consistently fast pace.
Snyder held on for second ahead of
Bryant and Roy Haines.
Snyder did pick up a win in the
Senior class as he shot across the line
just ahead of Mike Barber after the two
Bultaco riders battled for much of the
race.
