Inc. SACRAMENTO. CA, FEB. 2 Brian Garrahan aced the 2S0cc A dass at the 1997·Prairie City Grand Prix hosted by the Polka Dots Motorcycle Oub. Garrahan was one of many talented A and B riders who fielded the morning race. Later that afternoon, hundreds of C riders took to the track. Altogether over 350 riders tackled the rocky terrain. The well-designed course was a true GP configuration, with a proper mix of pavement, rough trail, open country. a little motocross and a few slippery rock fields worthy of an observed trials section. The course wound through the hills in the northern comer of the home of Hangtown (Prairie City State Vehicular Recreation Area) for a total of approximately eight miles. AJthough the track condition was a bit muddy for the day's first race, good lines abounded and Garrahan seemed to find them all, lap after lap. During the 1 l/2-hour race, Garrahan completed an incredible eight laps. Only second-place Mark Kerring and third-place Erie Ducray completed as many; most mere mortals in the A classes notched seven laps totaL Several B riders also completed seven lap,,induding Don Pombo, Jim Dempsey and Be. Hatd'!, who went 1-2-3 in the 250<:c divisio Super Senior A winner Gary Vanderpool al completed sev~n circuits. as did Senior A Clouse Holland Jr. In the C classes, five- and four-lap tota were the norm. and many riders could onl complete three or less. After the first lap, rider.; found the muddy track was deteriorating quickly in many places, making for tough going. P.o~ing tougher than the trail was 125ce class winner Aaron Youse, who outpaced the 23rider field. Jason Labane topped an even larger 2,5Occ C class, which had a whopping 42 entries. First-time cross country racer Kyle Preciado won the BOcc division, putting four laps and many larger machines behind his Kawasaki. "People were falling allover the place, especially in the slippery round boulden;," Preciado said. "[t was tough, but not too bad. [ passed a bunch of 1255 and that was a lot of fun." ~ Resutts 125 A:. L Russ Piggott; 2. Jeff Grt'Skopf; 3. Rob Zimmmnan. 2SO k 1. ONn Carnhan; 2. Marie Kerli~ 3. Eric Ouc:ray; 4. Erik Kohler; 5.
