Hart hot at Woodland MX
By Clay Light
WOODLAND, WA, JAN 12
Grayson Hart picked up wins in the 125cc,
250cc, Over 30 and Almost Vintage 250cc Expert
classes at Woodland Motocross Park.
While Hart was busy out front running away
with the lead position in the combined 2S0cc
Almost Vintage class, fellow Experts Kirk
Williams and Jesse Buckley did all they could to
keep him in sight but had to settle for second
and third overall. Jon Morgan beat Yamaha
rider 8m Brown and Kawasaki-mounted Dale
Jacobus for the Intermediate win.
Hart's next task came in the 250cc Sportsman
class. He was pressured by fellow CR pilot Joe
Casey, who pushed him throughout both motos
and wound up second overall with a 2~2 showing. Rickman Montesa rider Shawn Brown
nursed an ailing machine into third ahead -of
Intermediate winner Morgan.
Hart and Casey's battle continued in the
125cc Sportsman class.
Casey stayed right on Hart's rear wheel for
several laps in moto one, but in the end it was
Hart winning both motos to snag his third over·
all win. Casey went 2·2 to beat Richard Sipp for
second in the Expert portion.
La Faye McCarver, the lone Intermediate.
rider in 125cc action, ran a distant fourth behind
the Expert trio, but ahead of Jeff Anderson, win·
ner in the Amateur ranks,
Hart's final win came in the Over 30 Expert
class, where he again beat Casey, Morgan
topped the Intermediate class for his third over·
all of the day.
A large turnout of Women riders was on
hand. Luann Swisher won both motos in the
class, but her win didn't come without a battle
from Lana Ingham, the second· place finisher.
Sommer Wolcott, Valerie Ulver and Ava Glasser
rounded oul the top five.

Fitzhugh finds victory
at Elma Short Track
By Clay Light
EW\1A, WA, JAN. 11
National number 49 Chris Fitzhugh won the
Expert main event at the AMA District 27 season-opening indoor short track at the Grays
Harbor County Fairgrounds Pavilion at Elma,
Washington.
Expert qualifying had Oregon's Jeff Harsha
beating Troy Rose and ationa! number 12 Rex
Fisher for a \\rin in the first of three heat races,
Speedy Kell, the new ational number·S1 plate
holder, won the second heat. The final heat went
the way of Fitzhugh, who fended off fellow veteran Mickey Fay for a win,
Kell was the pole sitter for the Experts' 12rider, 20-lap final, which was a crash~marred
event. Harsha, winner of the final race of the
season here, fell victim, as did Fay.
The third and final take had Kell and
Fitzhugh leading the way intd turn one, followed by Eric Rickman and Fisher. Harsha came
from row three to settle into fifth after a lap.
Fitzhugh's win, though, wasn't a runaway, as
KeU pressured him throughout the final.
A broken hay bale on the track brought
action to an end with two laps to go, making the
official top three Fitzhugh, Kell and Rickman,
who was a victim of the strewn debris and was
awarded third despite a crash after positions
were retabulated to the prior lap. Harsha carved
to fourth ahead of Fisher.
