Torr Motors' Mark Oldar was next best, accumulating 42 points aboard his Fantic, while Hawaiian shirt-wearing Robert Madden rounded out the top four with his usual smile. As the gate dropped, Hilgenberg jumped out front, with Boydstun's side-piper hot on his heels. With Hilgenberg's wide Rickman using all the right lines, Boystun was forced to bide his time, waiting for the smallest opening. His break came on lap two, when he passed and pulled away for an uncontested first-mota win. Moto-two excitement came from the same pair as once again Hilgenberg's torquey Triumph took the holeshot with Boystun glued to his back fender. For two laps, the pair rode seemingly in unison, looking like a motorized two-man bobsled team. Boydstun broke ranks after two laps, leaving Hilgenburg to eat secondplace dust and giving himself a well-eamed I-I overall win. Results SPTSMN 125 EX: 1. Don Ruin (Hon). INT: 1. Ron Renzuli (CZ)i 2. Grove Motocross .Park. Simi Valley's KH Performance put up $2,000 in prizes for the one-day event and the Thou- sand Oaks Yamaha-backed Rhodes wanted his share. In moto one, the Riders Choice Yamaha of Jason Terry got the holeshot with Rhodes in tow, and the two flew out off the Davis Drop side by side. Matt Gomez and Chad Frank were banging bars for third. By the end of the eight·lap mota, the hardcharging Terry outjumped Rhodes and took the win by a small margin, followed. by Frank, Gomez a,nd 'Iast week's winner, KFI-backed Jeff Brodsly. . In moto two, Rhodes was ready to move up to the next leveL He gated perfectly but the holeshot slipped away as Rhodes lost traction on the uphill start. Terry rocketed into the lead. Rhodes put the moves to Terry in the canyon and launched his Todd Rhodes-tuned YZSO to the bottom of the big drop. Terry had nothing for the smooth and fluid Rhodes and by the mota's end, 6ve seconds separated the two riders. Frank and Gomez were once again 6ghting over third. Frank got it, followed by Gomez, Cory Taillon, Brodsly, Matt Paullin and Travis Mehterian. Mini track action was a day of victory for the family of 50cc Starter-class winner Nathan Search, as the 6-year-old Search got the overall he's worked so hard to win~ Moto one saw Search with the holeshot, followed by Cale Summer6eld, Wesley Solomon, Jessica Perry and Dustin Davis. By the end of the 1O-lap race, Search got the 50cc Starter win, while Davis' Thousand Oaks Yamaha won the Limited/Stock (4-6) class. In mota two, the king of Pee Wee holeshots did it again. Search led, followed by Perry, Summerfield, Davis, and Solomon. Search and Davis locked bars wide open on the downhill on lap six. Search went down hard, but he shook it off and went on to take the win, followed by Solomon, Perry, Davis and Summerfield. Results Mini Tn<;k 5OSfRTR: 1. VANCOUVER, WA, DEC 15 Former AMA Expert Todd Tracy continued his reign of terror in the Northwest by winning the Over 40 and Open Prp classes. during indoor short tra.ck action at the Clark County Fairgrounds. Lee Jensen and Allen Morinville, both topnotch riders in the Over 40 class, could do little as Tracy, who finaUy has gotten his Trackmaster 650 dialed in, opened up a big lead and held it to the finish to ~ontinue his current winning streak. The day's highlight undoubtedly was the nine-rider, 20-lap Open Pro main event, which lined up many of the top Expert and Pro-Am riders from around the Northwest. .Expert Russ Lynch put his Rotax out front, but Tracy, a transplant from Idaho who now lives in Portland, Oregon, was right there to take it away when Lynch got a little too sideways. Tracy shot well ahead of the field until George Prindiville sneaked thmugh traffic and set up the day's premiere battle fo.r the lead. Jensen and fellow Pro-Am rider Studebaker had a similar thing going on behind the Lead duo, and got a bird's-eye view 9f the incredible finish that saw Tracy win by a wheel over Prindiville. Jensen grabbed third ahead of Studebaker, Lynch and Pro-Am rider Brian Paul. Chris Celorie also gave an impressi ve performance. Celorie keeps teacing up the SOcc ranks and his dad, former Expert Jeff Celorie, says a 60cc ride is in the works soon. Not bad considering young Chris has only raced competitively six times and has won four in a row. Roby Haycock, one of the top 50cc riders in the district, chased Celorie to the finish, but Celorie won by a wheel. . The combined 80/ 60cc class had a £un field of riders for the 10-lap final..Oregonian Timmy Ricketts ran away with the race just as he had during qualifying. Trailing Ricketts was Trevor Wharton, until he fell prey to Timmy Haycock. Haycock initially was caught up in a tight battle with Mark Studebaker and Danny Hazel, but broke free and passed BOcc rider Wharton to finish behind Ril'ketts for the top 60cc spot. Results Payne perfect at Castaic Lake MX By Tony Alessi CASTAle, CA, DEC 15 Team Green's rising star Billy Payne posted a double-moto sweep of the 125cc lntermed iate class during the SSC Winter Warm Up sexies finale held at Castaic Lake MX. The pits were buzzing after the arrival of the Team Green semi, which set up next to the new Pro,Circuit/Thousand Oaks Kawasaki team. The event that everyone was talking about was the raffling off of a new KXl25. Payne made it dear that he was not pulling any punches after he grabbed the holeshot in the first 125cc Intermedi.ate moto. Payne opened a 6ve-second lead on the fust lap, then consistently pulled away lap 3.£ter lap until he had opened an insurmountable lead. The second moto saw a repeat performance by Payne and his Pro Circuit-backed Kawasaki KX12~ for the day's overall victory, where he topped Jeremy Chaussee, Jimmy Varis, Damon Bivens and Andreu Labrador. Kawasaki of Simi Valley-sponsored Mark Allen controlled the 250cc Intermediate ranks and rode to the front in both motos. AUen also post.ed the series overall championship while finishing in front of Damon Bivens, MIke Collier, George Lamoni and Dan King. Sean Collier posted a double class victory in the minicyde ranks where he topped the charts in both 60cc (9-11) and 80cc Novice divisions. Collie~ took home $150 in Thousand Oaks Kawasaki shop bucks for his efforts. T.J. Berario had a great day at the lake by first winning both 80cc Beginner matos, then by being drawn as the winner of th.e new KXI25, which was raffled off by Thousand Oaks Kawasaki, Team Green and Pro Groot. c:N Results OPEN PRO: 1. Thordarson thrashes Technique Trial By Chris Cooley LUCERNE, CA, DEC I Oli Thordarson came away from the LeftoveTurkey Trial as the winner of the Masters class· the newly formed di.vision that falls in between the super-challenging Expert class and the Advanced. division. Mounted aboard his trusty Montesa Cota, Thordarson showed up eager to ride on the big rook sections at the Technique Trials Oub-promoted event in the Cougar Buttes area of Lucerne. A former top Advanced rider, Thordarson has had little trouble emerging as one of the dominant Masters riders as well. Tbordarson's enthusiasm showed as he turned in his best loop of the day on the very first lap - a seven. Thordarson's incredible firstlap score was the lowest of the day, and his 10and IS-point second and thiId loops wrapped up a solid win. Kent Graham was a close second, with 9-12- P/W: 1.
