Hoenshell hot at
XR National Motocross
By Darryl Smith
DALLAS, TX, NOV. 17
Clay Hoenshell cashed in at the third annual XR
National, taking home half of the $SOO purse for
his effort in the Pro Unlimited class.
Hoenshell wasted no time getting to the
front. He was dialed in, nearly dragging the bars
in one high-speer! berm. Hoenshell pulled out a
comfortable lead and kept it for 15 laps. The best
race of the day was for second, as Steve Lahatte
and Jerry Joiner rode wheel to wheel. Lahalle
got big air over the jumps and that was when
Joiner dosed in. The two made contact several
times, but Lahalle always had the good line,
knocking Joiner off balance. Lahalle didn't make
any mistakes and took second by a few feet over
Joiner. Mack Weeks, in his first appearance at
the National, rode a Cartwright-sponsored bike
to fourth place, just outside of the paying positions.
Hoenshel1 led the 1{}-lap Pro Stock race wire
to wire. His biggest advantage was that he was
able to double everything on the track, even on
his stock bike. Kyle Parks staYeo'" S. CMI B
