Smith gets first at StarWest Motocross ByTonyAlesal MORENO VALLEY, CA, NOV. 9 Five-year-old Kyle Smith won his first-ever race tonight in the 50cc (4-6) Starter division during nighttime motocross held at StarWest Cycle Park. Smith, the son of former Maico Factory racer Mike Smith, was very confident aboard his AC Racing-tuned KTM. He joined nearly 60 other Pee Wee racers who participate regularly in arguably the best Pee Wee program in the state. StarWest has classes ranging from the division in which Smith raced for riders with less than five races of experience, all the way up to the Super Pee Wee (6-9) division, which cateIs to aggressive. high-speed micro racers aboard highly modified machines. Smith was competing in only his fourth race and, though he is still somewhat cautious, his speed and confidence have improved over the past month. In the end, Smilh won both motos that he competed in and took home his £jIst winner's trophy. Former Pee Wee racer Travis Christenson got his first moto win when he won the first 60cc (6-9) Beginner race. Christenson, who just turned 6 years old, was impressive as he jumped his Ka wasaki KX60 over all the track's obstacles. The second moto saw Christenson primed for a repeat performance, but a fall early in the race ruined his chance tOT an overall vjctory. "Consistent Cody" Bradbury used a pair of second~place finishes for the overall win. while Michael Perry, Chase Takacs, Christenson and the young lady Candice Motshagen rounded out the top five.
