liN 'THE WIND' I Eaken, Camlin to Marone '5 with Hacker V eteran Grand National tuner Skip Eaken a(1.d rider Davey Camlin have put together a deal with Moroney's Harley-Davidson team boss Pat Moroney that will see the pair link up with Mike Hacker to become a major portion of the 1997 Moroney's Harley-Davidson 750cc squad. The 52-year-old Eaken'will act as crew chief for both Camlin and Hacker, handling motorcycle preparation and tuning chores for the team out of his Windham, Ohio, shop. "We weren't offered anything to return to Corbin Racing," Eaken said. ''I'd been talking to Pat Moroney for about two weeks, and we finally put this deal together last Thursday (November 14). This all started when I was just going to build a motor for him, but we had some telephone conversations and it grew into this deal. I still enjoy going racing, but it costs money. It was just a matter of trying to get enough money to be competitive. Pat made me a good proposa1." Though much will undoubtedly be expected of the new team, Eaken said that - at least for his part - its' on-track performance goals are only a part of his focus. ''I'll be happy if this team works together as a team," Eaken said. "This is a new deal, and we are very optimistic. As far as goals, Mike had a down year last year. I'd like to see him in the top 10 and winning some races. Davey's goals are even higher than that. But I'm looking forward to working with Pat. He's really into his racing, and that's one of the reasons we went with this deal." "I'm real happy," Camlin said. "Pat's a dirt track fanatic, and he's always been really nice to me. It will be neat to be wearing his colors. He wants to win. That's his priority and that's my priority. I don't want to badmouth Corbin, but I don't think that was the goal over there. Mike and I have always been good friends on the circuit, too, and I think we will make great teammates. He's a little bit younger than me, so I can probably help him out. He can help me out, too. I'm looking forward to.this. We're going to have fun." Moroney said that he anticipates the move to take on Eaken and Camlin will be more of a relief than a burden. "I'm really pumped, and I know Mike is pumped," Moroney said. "I think this is going to be a really great team. It will work better for me because this way I'll be able to concentrate more on Jason's (Fletcher) program and my 883 program. I've just got way too much going on already." Moroney f1id confirm that Jason Fletcher would also fly Moroney's colors in 1997, . once again with Gary Edmunds spinning the wrenches on Fletcher's 750 and 883. Moroney said that it was yet unclear whether or not Hacker and Camlin would ride 883s. The team is still currently negotiating with several title sponsors. riders should contact Chan at 310/4221957.
