Johnson takes two at
Trans-Cal Motocross
By SCott Hoffman
VICTORVILLE, CA, SEPT. 22
Out of a field of top national and local pros,
Team SplitFire's Casey Johnson rode to victory
in both the 125cc and "25Occ Pro classes in round
one of California Motorcycle Club's Sunstar
Sprockets Trans-Cal National at Race Plex
motocross track.
Mike Kiedrowski had the holeshot in the
fiest moto of 2SOcc Pro racing, followed by Johnson and FM/MSR-backed Spud Walters. Johnson quickly moved past the former National
Champion in one fell swoop.
Wal ters made a move on Kiedrowski to take
second, holding it for o"e lap until Kiedrowski
started to loosen up and reclaimed the spot.
Walters continued to faU off the pace, due to
arm pump and bike problems, and finished the
moto in fifth. By the third lap, Johnson was leaving the rest of the field in the dust.
When the checkered flew, it was Johnson
with the win followed by Kiedrowski and Travis
Preston.
In the second moto, Lytle took the early lead
while Preston and Kiedrowski were aU over his
tail. Kiedrowski dropped Preston back to third
and set his sights on his teammate Lytle. Going
into a tight comer, Lytle went down.
"Lytle fell over the side of the berm and I
had no time to react and I ran over his back and
part of his bike," Kiedrowski said. Lytle was all
right, but was unable to get back into the battle
for the lead.
Kiedrowski took over the lead, but Johnson
was closing rapidly, having worked up to second after a fifth-place start. On the final lap,
Johnson was within striking distance and his
determination paid off. With two turns to go,
Johnson railed the outside of a turn and dragraced up a small hill to take the win with only
inches to spare. Johnson won the overall. while
Kiedrowski and Nelson took the second and
third spots.
johnson also won both motos in the 12Scc
Pro class.

Torrance tops Tyler MX
By Kat Spann
TYLER, TX, SEPT. 15
Chris Torrance won the 250cc Pro class at the
kickoff of the second annual Texas State Championship Series, which drew 449 rider.; to Swan
MX.
The 2SOcc Pro class lined the gate with II
fast riders and some new names on the list.
Grapevine Kawasaki's Mike Bolivey, in his first
outing as a Pro, grabbed the holeshot. Broadway
KTM's Jody North, also new to the Pro ranks,
jumped in behind Boliver and gave chase while
D&S Kawasaki's Brad Woolsey and Grapevine
Kawasaki's Torrance followed.
. Boliver held the lead into lap one while
Woolsey harassed him. Torrance had his eye on
the top spot and was all over Woolsey as they
caced in tight formation.
It was still up for grabs in lap three as.
Woolsey's front tire matched Boliver's rear, and
Torrance's front tire was allover Woolsey's rear
end. As the three emerged from the woods,
Woolsey's bike was sputtering and Torrance
was in the lead, followed·by Boliver. Woolsey
eventually had to pull off with his sick bike.
As they came over the last jump, Boliver fell
in the mud in front of HSN Racing's Jason Eckhoff. Then Caleb Leath and Sprint Haynes came
together and bumped, with Leath hitting the
ground.
Torrance took the win, followed by Eckhoff,
North, Haynes, Boliver and David Widmer,
another fiest-time Pro.
After the first motos had been cun in each
class, weather forced promoter Trey Oingfost to
call ita day.
The top three winners in the 250cc Intenn...
diate class all were ex-Novice riders, and they
used their precision and experience to race at tne
top of their class. Cody Marek took the win, followed by Ryan Petty and Ryan Wallace. Rounding out the top five were East Texan.Todd Kyser
and Women's World Champ Dee Wood.
Brad Wolfe captured the holeshot in the 60cc
