Sunada superior at CRC MX By Greg Robertson PALMDALE, CA, SEIT. 21 Akira Sunada ran away from the 12Sec Beginner field in both motos during California Racing Club's Saturday night motocross at the Los Angeles County Raceway. Aaron Clem's first-mota lead almost lasted a lap before Sunada made his way past on the jump-filled sand track. Iustin Scott was right on Sunada's back fender and also managed to put the move on Clem to take over second. Scott and Oem hung with Sunada for the first couple of laps before Sunada 'got used to the track and started pulling away. Midway through the moto, Sunada enjoyed a l()..second lead over Scott and Oem, who was trying to keep Tyson Tittl.emier at bay. As the ~umber of laps completed increased, so did Sunada's lead. When the checkers waved, Sunada was aU alone way out front. Scott finished a lonely second. Tittlemier overshot a big sandy berm with a lap remaining. allowing Clem to breeze home Ior third. Clem grabbed his second holeshot of the evening over Scott and Sunada as round two began. Sunada double-jumped past Scott on the first la p to take over second. Sunada zeroed in on Clem, pulled next to him entering the back straight and they were side-by-side over the following two big jumps. Sunada held the advantageous inside line into the next comer to grab the lead. Tittlemier came alive, passing Scott on lap one, then stuffing Clem in a corner on the following lap to control second place. Tittlemier was the fastest rider through a long selies of whoops and would almost catch Sunada there each time for the next few laps. Sunada picked up the pace in the second half of the race to walk away from Tittlemier for the convincing win. Tittlemier's 7-2 score gave him fourth overall behind the 2-3 rides of Scott and 3-4 score of Clem. Results P/W (0-6): 1. David Medina (Yam); 2. Shana Rhinehart (Yam); 3. Jared Sullada (yam); 4. Northrup nails Pleasure Riders HC By Kevin Northrup CAYUGA, IN, SEPT. 22 Iason Northrup won the fast time trophy and the District 15 title at the Indiana State Hillclimb Championships held at the Pleasure Riders Oubgrounds. Northrup recorded a 3.392-second time in the first round of SOOcc competition, taking the lead into intermisison. Andy Fortner was close behind him with an excellent 3.523-second time. lohn Scroggins was in third place with a 3.798second run, and David Peirson and Mark Shafer were also in the top five at 3.842 and 3.856, respectively. The pace picked up considerably in the second round. Scroggins unleashed a nearly perfect 3.312-second run on his CRSOO to take the class lead. Northrup pegged the throttle to the limit on his Sportland CRSOO and flew far past the second breaker. Landing with the throttle on, he held it open all the way through the top lights. Northrup sailed high over the crest in 3.031 seconds, setting his 10th fast time of the year and claiming the State Championship as well as the District ti tie. Scott Pearson also delivered an outstanding ride, taking the second-place trophy with a fine 3.299-second ride. Andy Fortner finished fourth based on his first-round ride and Marc Stamm came in fifth on his CR500 with a second-round 3.831-second time. Mark Matthews claimed the SOcc Micro Mini win on his IRSO with an excellent 45-foot firstround effort, the only rider in the class to make it over the steep £irst breaker. Class points leader Zachary Duncan nearly did, but ran out of powefl.at 23 feet to claim second place for the day, but that was good enough for the District title. lackie Mason took the 85cc Youth lead in tho' first round at 4.547 seconds. In second-round action, however, National number-six Becky Williams shocked the rest of the class as she made a full-throttle charge at the hill on her KXSO and held the gas all the way up, stopping the clock in 4.007 seconds to take the class win. Mason's first-round ride held up for second place, while younger brother Cody Mason took third. Results 50 AUTO: 1. Mark Matthews (Suz); i Zachary Duncan (Suz). 85 YTH: I. Becky Williams (Kaw); 2.
