Law again faltered off the line in mota two
and Sturgeon got the holeshot, with Wes Broby
in second, but it did not last long. Law overtook
both to again finish first, but in the final analysis
Law had to settle for second place behind Broby
for winner of the series title.
Equally spectacular at the final round was
125cc Novice rider Bern Santos. Santos and his
brother Ritchie were the focus of attention in
their two motos.
In moto one, the Santos brothers swapped
the lead tmee times, and it was on the last lap
that Bern Santos made one final pass to take the
lead for keeps.
In m.oto two, Steve Brazil had a brief ride in
first place, but the Santos brothers passed him
before the end of lap one. Bern Santos did not
aJlow anyone to come close to him the whole
moto, so moto two ended with the same finish
order as one and the final placings were set.
Fortunately, for Brazil, his fourth-place finish
in the final day of the se.ries - coupled with the
Santos lads not being regular competitors - did
result in Brazil ta.king overall h.onors for the
four-wee.k Argyll Series.

Wheeler whomps
Sarona Oaks MX
By Homer Eubanks
RAMONA, CA, SEPT. 15
Chris Wheeler outpowered the 250cc Pro class al
Barona Oaks Raceway.
Wheeler had some competition from Tim
Sharp in the second round but dominated the
first moto right from the gate. Sharp got the seco,nd-moto holeshot but Wheeler took over on lap
two and quickly went to collect his 200 percent
Pro payback check. Sharp took the second-place
money with Ed Redman earning third overall
with his 2-4 showing.
Andy Harrington stole the limelight in the
Open l25cc (16-25) division, having little trouble
in capturing the first-moto checkered. Manny
Arias, who placed second in the first round,
grabbed the second-mota holeshot. Harrington
came off the line in filth and had to work his
Jay through the dust. Harrington worked into
fiecond by lap four but couldn't make up the
ground that Arias had earned early on in the
moto. However, Arias was d.isqualified for riding a different bike for the second race.
Oro Blocker earned his overall victory in the
Y2sec Novice division after first placing second
in moto one to Travis Frink. Blocker saw Frink
take off at the gate but couldn't catch him as he
,,:as busy keeping Michael Fox at bay. 1n the folll;iwing moto Frink again took the hoIeshot with
fox and Blocker trailing. Fox took the lead on
lap two, but a determined Blocker chased him
down and took over on lap four.
;;; Tvan Shultz and Jake Bissonnette continued
their season-long battle for supremacy in the
Junjor Cycle (0-8) division. Bissonnette saw
Shultz lead the pack into tum one at the first
gate but managed to steal the lead and eventual
win on lap three.
- In the second moto, things were reversed as
Bissonnette took 011 first but Shultz ran him
down and took over on the second lap. Brad
Masters was able to take a pair of threes for the
aay then came out later to sweep both Pee Wee
'(~-8) motos.

Leivan clinches
Cannon Creek Enduro
By Frank Leivan
COWNS, MO, SEPT. 8
Steve Leivan was the overall winner of the Cannon Creek Enduro, round 8 of the Black Jack
Enduro Circuit, held on the 1000-acre Eagle Gun
& Sports Ranch.
A light shower covered the course the night
before the event, settling the dust and making
conditions perfect for the majority of the race.
The trail consisted of rocky single-track, powerline sections, rocky creeks and fire roads. Many
speed changes and resets were incorporated into
the layout, which saw short-course riders go 47
route-sheet miles while B riders rode 70 and the
AA and A riders wel'lt 75.
Check two was the first check that took
points from all riders with Leivan leading the
way with a 1:14. Steve Travis, on a Honda, was
next-fastest with a 1:23, ahead of Rusty Reynaud
carding a 1:27. Check three would prove to be
the downfall for Travis as he suffered a two·
point penalty for burning the check.
The first ection of loop two was run at 18
mph and the riders were checked at the end of it
with a tie breaker. Again, Leivan was tops with
a 32, while Travis and Reynaud checked in on
the early side of a perfect 30 with a 23 and 25,
respectively.
The final two checks were run at 24 mph and
Leivan, Reynaud and Travis recorded identical
threes at check nine and sixes at check 10.
When the scores were tallied, Leivan had
secured the win on his WR25O, with a score of
10:46, ahead of KTM 360-mounted Reynaud
who finished with a 10:62. Travis would claim
third with 12:60.
Allen Haynes took another win in the 250cc
A class, dropping 12 points and finishing fourth
overall. Jamie jennings rode his Honda to second in class with a 16-point ride and Jim lngram
finished third on his Suzuki with a 17.

Tyler ties up New Iberia MX
By David Levy
NEW mERlA, LA, SEPT. 22
jeremy Tyler captured the 125cc Novice win
over a fast Brandon Thibodeaux at Hurricane
Alley Raceway.
Thibodeux holeshot the first moto and
pulled a large lead on Shawn Romero with Tyler
in third. just as Rome~o began to gain ground on
Thibodeaux on the third of seven laps, he
crashed hard over the long tabletop jump,
breaking his handlebars and relegating him to
the sidelines for the rest of the moto. With
Romero out, Tyler pushed hard but just didn"t
have time to catch Thibodeaux.
The. second mota start was a replay of the
first with Thibodeaux getting the holeshot and
pulling a three-second lead on Tyler with a battered Romero in third. Thibodeaux tired and on
the second lap Tyler pounced on the opportunity for the lead with Romero right on his tail.
Tyler then began systematically pulling away
from Romero while Thibodeaux faded to third.

Gregory strikes gold at
Cambridge'IT
By Tim McBride
CAMBRIDGE, MN. SEPT. 15
Tim Gregory struck gold in the form of two firstplace trophies as the Norseman Motorcycle Club
hosted the final District 23 Tf race of the season.
After winning the 30+ class, Gregory continued his quest by lining up for the Open B inain
event. District 16's Joe Wipperlourth pulled the
holeshot.
The Young America-sponsored rider led the
first two laps before being overtaken when Gregory sUd to the outside in the first tum leading
to the infield section. Gregory would then race
on to his second win on the day. On the last lap,
Wipperfourth slipped 011 the track in the tight
right-hand corner leading toward Langland
Gulch. The miscue allowed local Open B-class
luminary Marcus Bauer to close in, but Wipperfourth held on for second. Heat winner Keegan
Iverson finished fourth just ahead of Troy
Wiseth.
The Swenson family topped off a very successful racing season. Cody Swenson's flag-toflag victory. in the Mini Chain class capped the
championship for the B-year-old speedster.
Six-year-old Keith Swenson had to work a
little harder for his victory. Alter chasing race
leader Kevin Anderson for two laps, Swenson
reeled in Anderson on the front straight and
~aced on to his second win of the year. Alex
Gardner, Travis Waschek and Jeremy Anderson
rounded out the top five positions of the eightrider field.
Pro dirt tracker Davey DurelIe made a
cameo appearance and scored wins in the Open
Pro and 250cc Pro divisions. Verdeen Langland
led much of the 250cc Pro final before succumbing to the pressure of a hard-charging Durelle.
Wipperlourth and Todd Kluever finished third
and fourth.
After the start of the Open Pro final, Durelle
systematically picked his way to the front of the
pack by lap seven. The only rider able to keep
Durelle in sight was second-place finisher
Randy Triplett. Kurt Boehlke finished a lonely
third, well ahead of Verdeen Langland and Eric
