Fisher fast at Play Fair HM

SPOKANE, WA, SEPT. 14
Oregon's Rex Fisher ran away with 750cc Expert
main event, taking a large chunk of the $6000
purse at the Play Fair Half Mile.
Fisher grabbed the opening-lap lead ahead
pf Ronald Yamamoto. After a brief three-lap
tussle, Fisher shook off the diminutive speedster and opened up a huge gap, one that he'd
maintain to the finish, netting $1000. Following
Fisher and Yamamoto were local riders Steve
Liberty and Lonny Kopp, while Jerry Southworth, Mike Sullivan and Canada's Paul laVoie
followed.
National number-38 plate holder Steve Mayfield led the 600cc Expert field, which also
would pay $1000 to the winner, while fellow
C:alifornian Andy Tresser loomed in his shadow. Tresser stayed on Mayfield's rear wheel for
the entire main event, making a last~lap move,
not for the faint of heart, to take away Mayfield's win. Mickey Fay, who ran third from the
second lap to the finish, held off Jaime Aguilar
for the posi.tion. Fisher finished fifth.
