Stamm the man at Dickeyville Hillclimb By Bud Northrup Carsten best at Birch Creek MX By Jay and ShBron Hauser DANVILLE, VA, SEPT. 14 Birch Creek Motorsports hosted round two of the U.S. Eastern Pro-Am Fall Series with some top-notch motocross racing, highlighted by Barry Carsten's winning perforntances in the 125 and 250cc Pro class. Over 350 riders turned out from 18 states looking to check out the track before the next day's Fall Classic. The local racers had to work extra hard for top-fi ve finishes. Carsten topped a strong 15-rider field of 125cc Pros in convincing fashion with a double mato sweep. Adam Rake claimed a second overall by turning in two consistent third-place finishes. LOfry Gessner just squeaked into the top five of mota one with a fifth, but then came back with a strong second-place run in moto two to round out the top three. Tim Hawthorne claimed fourth overall with a score of 2-6 to edge out Pat Waitt. Carsten put himself out front in the 250cc Pro division with nothing short of pure domination. Carsten's twtrmoto sweep was uncontested, but the 250cc division did see some of the local talent show some strength as there was tight racing in Carsten's wake. Hawthorne posted two third-place finishes to nab the overall runner-up spot. Shane Templeton was the first local boy to cut into the top of the Pro class with a solid second-place mota ride in the second mota, capturing third overall. Waitt took fourth overall with a 2-5 score. The Over 25 A class offered some top-notch competition. Templeton ended up with both mota wins in the division, but not without a tremendous battle with Scott Shipley, who was coming back from an injury. Shipley appeared to be back in top form as he stayed right on Templeton's rear fender after leading much of both motos. Alford came in just behind Shipley in both motos. Chris Wagner had a good day and posted a 54 tally to earn a fourth for the day over another crowd favorite, Doug Neighbors. R.sults so (~): 1. Devon P1lkington (KTM); 2. Broc Tickle (LEM); 3. Justin DICKEYVILLE, WI, SEPT. 15 The Hawkeye Motorcycle Club held its September hillclimb on a 5OO-foot hill as U5 riders from aU over the Midwest competed in six classes, with Marc Stamm setting the fast time of the day. The SOOcc Novice class featured 38 riders. National 500cc Champion Mike Wood was in this class today, along with several state and district champions. Stamm flew over the top of the hill in an incredible 14.94 seconds on i\is first try. In second round actio", it was difficult for anyone to better his time as the hill became choppier. Current District IS and District 17 points leader Jason Northrup attempted a tight line along the left side of the hill and had a good ride going, but hit one of the many rock ledges near the top and was kicked out of bounds at 470 feet. Stamm couldn't improve on his first-round ride, but he didn't have to as it held up for the win. This proved to be the fast time of the day his seventh of the year, even though he missed nearly two months of the season with a broken coll.arbone. Rick Parmeter was the runner-up with a 15.37-second ride. Wheelwright was close on his heels with 15.43. Lloyd Haas took the early 500cc Expert-class lead with a 17.32-second run, a time he felt would not be good enough to place him in the money. Only Gene Toplier bettered the Haas ride, however, stopping the clock at 16.36 seconds to take the lead. Ron Hoffman's 17. 35 was good for third. The 500cc Four-Stroke class featured 17 bikes with a mix of European and Japanese marques. Bob Moriarity was the only rider in the class to top' the hill on the first ride, doing it in 26.19 seconds to take the first-round" lead. In secondround action, however, four more riders topped the hill, with Kevin Tilson of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, posting an impressive win with a 20.85-second ride. Moriarity's first-round ride held up for second, and Jim Devine took thirdplace cash with a 27.15-second ride. R88UIts 500 NOV: 1. Marc Stamm (Hon>- 2. Kidl Parmeter (Hon); 3. CORPUS CHRISTI, TX,SEPT.15 Vince Kacir took the Open-class overall at the kickoff to the South Texas Fall Series at Oso Creek Motocross Park. Kacir grabbed th.e firs.t-moto holesho.t, followed by Donnie Roland, Michael Peacock, Cole Brown and Bryan Monjaras. Roland cut unde.r Kaor in the sharp comer onto the start straight, dipping Kacir's front wheel hard enough to break off his front fork protector and cause Kacir to go down. . Kacir remounted behind Peacock. Roland stayed out front until crashing off the grandstand jump in the final lap. Peacock took the win, followed by Kacir and Monjaras. Kacir grabbed the mota-two holeshot. The front-runners were evenly paced into lap three, when Roland took Peacock out in the back secti~n of the course and charged afte; Kacir £or1 two laps before tagging him. Roland wailed on top of the sweeper near the finish of lap five and exited side by side with Kacir. As they jumped the finish line and landed in the next sweeper, Roland edged into the lead.. Kacir tried to reel him in but slid out in the'next turn. Roland went down after the last whoop, with Brown taking the lead. Roland remounted barely ahead of Kacir an- 3. Sean Green (Kaw); 4.
