EVENTS' Randy Anderson claimed the senior Expert win with 1-2 moto finishes at Los Angeles County Raceway in Palmdale Califomia tail and Burkhart in third. The KJ( bucks would have to be given out for other than first place, however, as Burkhart used his National-winning speed to take over the lead and storm off for another win, and ultimately the overall. In the first 250cc A moto, Bowen jammed his way to a major holeshot, with Josh Sweat, Charlie Dunaway and Brock Sellards following behind in that order. The race leaders maintained those places for the entire moto. The second 250cc A moto belonged to Sellards as he fought off buddy Charlie Dunaway and a freight train of fast Pros for the win. Bowen fought his way up through the pack to finish third and take the overall. The 125cc A class belonged to Sellards as he took both wins, the purse money and the KJ( bucks home wi th him. Results down. With the field running so tight behind him, it caused a chain reaction. Bast, Sisemore and Felicia went down in the turn-four marbles. All three riders jumped back up and either rode or pushed their bikes across the finish line. After some discussion, Ferris was deemed the cause of the spill and awarded last place, while the remainder of the field's finishing spots were determined by their nmning order at the white flag. Essary had his second Handicap win in a row. Sisemore was given second, while Bast was moved back to third and Felicio was credited with fourth. Results 5CR: 1. Bob Hicks O.aw); 2. Thomas takes three at Marion County Motocross By Kyle Myers \0 0\ 0\ """" ('.. .i' lo-< OJ .g ..... o U 46 REDDICK, Fl., SEPT. 2 Fresh off his second-place finish in the 250cc B Modified class at Loretta Lynn's, jason Thomas swept the 125cc A (16-24) and Open Money classes at round 21 of the Yamaha Sunshine State Championship Series held at Motocross of Marion County. In the first Open Money moto, Todd Gardner jumped out to the early lead with Thomas, Travis Blackburn, Ronnie Renner and Jason Dodds following. Thomas slipped by Gardner on the opening lap as Renner passed Dodds for the fourth spot. Gardner then fell as Blackburn, Renner and Dodds moved by. Blackburn tried to close the gap on the leader Thomas, but with three laps to go, Blackburn's clutch went out, giving Thomas a huge lead. Blackburn tried to hold off Renner, but R!'nner sailed by on the tabletop to take the runner-up spot. Thomas held on for the easy win over Renner, Blackburn, Dodds and Gardner. Blackburn charged out of the gate to start moto fWo with Gardner, Thomas, Dodds and Renner giving chase. Immediately Blackburn, Gardner and Thomas pulled away from the field to battle for the point position. On lap three, Thomas squared off a turn and tried to go . around Gardner, but Gardner shut the door in the next comer. Gax:.dner went a little wide and Thomas motored by on the inside. Thomas then set his sights on Blackburn after following him for a lap. Thomas dived underneath Blackburn in a tum to take control of the race, then pulled out a three-second advantage over Blackburn, which he held to the finish. Gardner, Dodds and Renner rounded out the top five places. Blackburn had to ride a different bike in the second moto when he was unable to fix his, so he was not legal for the win, making the overall rankings Thomas, Gardner, Dodds, Renner and Blackburn. Oli AUG. 24 National number-<>ne plate holders Keith Bowen and Mark Burkhart each put on impressive performances as Action Sports hosted another round in its Summer Series. Burkhart won the 250cc B National Championship in Tennessee and easily bested the other Amateurs at this southern Ohio facility, winning both the 125 and 250cc Intermediate divisions. Bowen had just been crowned the 25+ and 30+ champion at Loretta L}'I!ll's, and was the man to beat in the 250cc A division as he smoothly defeated all challengers to take the overall. rn the first 250cc B moto, Bowen squirted off to a quick holeshot, leading the Chris Kuhn and joey Belmont to battle over second. Burkhart would run off to the win with plenty of time to style for the crowd, as Belmont followed in second after diplacing Kuhn. Moto two had Kuhn trying to earn some Kawasaki contingency money, and he grabbed himself a nice holeshot with Belmont hot on his 125 PRO: 1. Brock Sellards (Kaw); 2. Josh Sweat (Kaw); 3. Bryan Rushton continued his dominance' the Auto and 60cc classes by claiming first from start to finish in both classes. Sunday the Grivicic brothers again dominated with older brother Dane piloting his Honda to first in the 12Sec B class in both motos behind District 15 President Larry Witmer, who wa contesting the 25+ A class. Witmer was quickest at the gate and first t the double, followed closely by Grivicic. Fo three laps Dane kept the pressure on Witmer. Over the next four laps, Witmer continued hi smooth pace while Grivicic struggled with fatigue. At the completion of the seven laps, Witmer won with a 15-second lead over the rest Moto two was much the same. In the first 250cc C moto, Rob Fulton pulled the holeshot only to stop off in the rollin whoops section, handing the lead to Thomas York. York opened a seemingly safe lead for two laps, only to overshoot the turn after a doubJe, letting Mike Sombke by. Fulton overtook Sombke half a lap later, then crashed in the low section.
