Adam breaks Camelback II Motocross By Michael Adam PINE BLUFF, All, AUG. 18 john Adam led the l2Scc Novice class in amateur motocross action at Camelback U. josh Lorenson pulled the holeshot on his Searcy Yamaha-sponsored YZ, but his lead didn't last long. Adam made the pass on the inside at the first right turn. Adam took off on his Cycle & Marine-backed RM and stretched out a 2o-bike lead as he came through the first set of whoops and cruised to an easy victory. The race behind was more hectic as they came through the whoops four wide with Chris Chambers' KX, justin Mantooth's RM and Tim Farrel's RM about even and Lorenson fading. Chambers took the lead as they headed into the woods section with Farrell right behind. Farrell picked up the pace on the second lap and made the pass for second on Chambers over, the . Camelback jump with Mantooth fourth and jody Herndon moving into fifth. Lorenson got another excellent start in the second moto, only to be passed by Adam in a replay of the first race. Farrell got a poor start and Chambers and Mantooth were making the most of it in second and third. Joe Mooney moved up to fourth. FarreU made a great pass, doubling the whoops on the inside of Mooney and moving into fourth. They finished with Adam winning easily but Chambers, Mantooth and Farrell all closely bunched up for second, third and fourth. Re•.ults 50: 1. Justin Mason (KTht); 2. Ozz.le Barbaree (KTM). 60: I. Carpenter builds to victory in Mudslinger Junior Enduro By Paul Clipper 48 GRANVILLE, MA, AUG. 10 Drew Carpenter was the top dog at a Mudslinger junior Enduro that failed to live up to its name. Held on a beautiful, rainless day, the event gave the kids a 10-mile course with which to contend. A five-mile section led to the first checkpoint, and another five miles preceded the second checkpoint. From there the loop repeated itself, with Minis doing two laps and'Juniors doing three. The course was generally tight woods trails, lail:! out over Boy Scout hiking trails and mountain-bike trails on the property. Although the trails were in good condition, past use ensured a few rocky sections poking up here and there. Also, since it had been so wet, there was 00 way to escape a greasy coating on most of the rocks. Still, the conditions were great, and other than a few who lost their way, the riders had no trouble with the course. Carpenter completed each lap with no diffi' culty and minimum points lost. jesse Berthiaume put up a good fight, dropping 16 points to Carpenter's IS, and finishing just five seconds short in the special test. His final score was good enough for a first place in the junior A class. Mike Kaprowski. was second in the Junior A class, with a score of 19, while Chris Cramer was third with a 24. Nick Ackerman finished up the class with a 36-point card. The 1l-class Junior action was dominated by Ryan McKenzie, who lost just 26 points on the way to a class win. Boyd Brower finished second in junior B, just ahead of Dan Young. Boyd dropped 34 points while Dan came in third with 36 points for the day. Mini action saw Brian Wozniak taking first in the A class, scoring just 30 points over his two-lap circuit of the course, while second-place A rid.r Nathan Kanney finished the course with 38 points. Adam Aborn was the top-finishing Mini B-class rider, with a total score of 73 points, compared to Adam Simcock's 87. Results 0/ A: Drew Carpenter (Yam). JR A: I. Jesse 'Berthiaume (Kaw); 2. Guy Ilw Carson rocks at Rock Springs Motocross By Mark Hopkins ROCK SPRINGS, WY, AUG.1Q-n Ty Carson won both motos in Saturday's 250cc Intermediate racing at Wild West Motocross. Cycle Shack-sponsored Ca.rson got the firstmoto holeshot and ran away' with the win. Layton Cycle & Sports' Cole Wallwork made the race for second a yawner also as third-place finisher Kris Papworth wasn't even on the same straightaway as Wallwork. Larry Leavitt pulled out a fourth after a seventh-place start. Carson wouldn't have it as easy in moto two as he was behind Papworth and Wesley Malmgren on the start. Half a lap into it, though, Carson was in the lead and pulling away. Papworth and Malmgren kept things interesting with a battle for second that would go down to the wire. You could throw a blanket over the two riders. Malmgren dug deep into his bag of tricks, but couldn't slip past Papworth. Carson earned the overall with 1-1 finishes, Papworth was second with ~2 and Wallwork third with 26 motos. Shaun Last's turn at the front of Sunday's 12Scc Intermediate class lasted until turn two, when Carson swooped outside and into the lead. Randy Lewis held down third. Carson opened up a three-second lead as fast as Chad ZulUan of Colorado moved into second. Larry Leavitt was comfortable in third with josh Borges, after getting a midpack start, pushing Brandon Moses hard in a battle for fourth. Up front, Zullian pulled up to Carson's rear fender and the race was on. ZulUan pushed Carson hard, looking for an opening. Carson didn't give an inch until he gave a mile when he feU in the whoops, handing over the lead. Carson was up qUickly, salvaging a second, with Leavitt cruising in for third. Carson and Zullian worked past holeshot winner Brandon Moses in moto two, and a battle was on again. This time, however, Carson was chasing Zullian. The battle for first raged for a lap and a half until Carson tagged Zullian's rear wheel and dropped to third. Leavitt inherited second and put on a valiant charge, closing a six-secOnd gap on leader Zullian to three bike lengths at the checks. Josh Borges charged from outside the top seven to tag Carson for third by moto's end. Zullian's swept the overall with 1-1 motos, Leavitt earned second going 3-2, with Carson taking third with 2-4 finishes. Results Saturday 50 (Hi): 1. Braden Butterfield; 2. Justin Johnson; 3.
