early, Kossuth made an even better gate and took advantage of Hicks' line-gelling blocked by 4O-yard starter Patt Linn. Leaving Hicks, Linn and Hedden in the dust, Kossuth went for it all in the first lap. Going into the first tum a bit too hot, he classically manipulated the bike around the outside of 20-yard handicapper Vance Felicio and then sped past 10-yard starter Steve Martybse on the baCk straight to take over the lead. Once in front, Kossuth opened up a half-a-Iap lead on the stunned field, and then drove uncontested to the checkered flag. Felicia held off Linn for second place, and fourth went to Hicks. Felicio made a rare visit to the Scratch main, taking the inside pole with Hicks, Bast and Jimmy Sisemore fanned out to his right. Sisemore got the gate and led the other riders into the first tum. Hicks had been fast all rught, and got a gate almost as good as Sisemore's and was almost touching the leader's rear tire as they made their way around the first two laps. Meanwhile, Bast was calculating his next move. "Those two were working the pipe down low," Bast said later, "so I knew [ had to make the outside work. I'm just glad there was a little dirt left. There wasn't that much of an outside all rught." Bast put together two textbook outside laps to bring himself around and in front of an astonished Sisemore by the end of lap three. Sisemore's apparent bewilderment cost him second place as Hicks alertly moved inside and took over the runner-up spot. Felicio was a distant fourth. The Division Two win went to Matt King.. but the story of the night was Kim Darwazeh, who wrapped up the Division Two Auburn Points Title with a thrrd place finish in the main. DaIWazeh's main threat to his crown went away when Bill Newby crashed out on the last lap. Visiting Southern Califorrua junior rider Ryan Fisher brought down the house with a brilliant main-event victory over Jimmy Martinez and j.j. Martynse. Results SCRTCH: 1. Bart But (Jaw); 2. Libhart battled for the lead. Libhart slipped into third at the halfway point and got by johnson with two laps left. Libhart pressured Oark to the line, with Clark taking his first win by inches. Patton Jr. NELSONVILLE, OH, JULY 20 Charlie Dunaway captured his first Pro-class victories at round two of the 1996 Action Sports Supercross Series. Charlie has won many events at Action Sports as he has risen thr!,ugh the Amateur ranks, and it was just a matter of 'time before this talented rider headed the Pro classes. Tommy Collier grabbed the holeshot in the first 125cc Pro moto ahead of Dunaway and jeromy Buehl. Collier's run at the front ended on the second lap when Dunaway block passed his way into the lead in the back section of the track. Buehl also slipped by Collier and tried to pressure Dunaway into an error. Charlie held up under the heat and though Buehl got close, he couldn't find a way past. Dunaway, Buehl and ColJier took the top three spots ahead of josh DeMuth and Dick Hoy. Collier also holehsot the second moto but Dunaway look the lead before the first lap was over. Dunaway blasted away for the win and once again Buehl took second. Collier rode smoothly for third ahead of Patrick McMullen, who rebounded from a 10th-place firush in moto one. josh DeMuhi edged Dick Hoy once again to take fifth. De Muth had better luck in the 250« Pro class as he timed the gale perfectly in mota one. jeromy Buehl and Charlie Dunaway battled until lap three, when Buehl made a small bobble and Dunaway snagged second. Dunaway then ran down DeMuth but couldn't find a way into the lead. On the last lap, Dunaway tried to leap off the small step jump to fly across the finish line, but DeMuth had that move covered and took the win by inches. Buehl, Mike Morgan and c.j.KIein rounded out the top five. By the second moto, everung dew had settled and the slickness caught· Buehl by surprise. He nearly fell in the bermed 180 before the triple and had to double jump. Dunaway tiipled into the lead but overjumped the next small jump, allowing Buehl to retake the lead. Dunaway repassed Buehl on the back straightaway and held on for his third mota win. • Results so (4-6): 1. Devan Welch (KTM); 2. T'laven Holdcroft (KTM); 3. Shawn Lane (LEM); 4.
