Arndt aces Cambridge ST By Tim McBride CAMBRIDGE, MN, JULY 20. Once again Buzz Arndt recorded a perfect performance in three divisions by winning the Over 50, Over 40, and the Vintage Twin classes at Cambridge Speedway's quarter-mile oval in Cambridge, Minnesota. Arndt kicked off his day of dominance by racing to victory in the Senior (40+) class. Bob Herman slid past Bob Sutherlin on the last lap to gamer runner-up honors, with Paul Koch and Robert Becker in hot pursuit. . The Vintage Twin linal was a repeat performance for Arndt as he sped to the checkered flag ahead of Joel Gulbranson. Attention then turned to the battle for third place among Bob Reynolds, Frank Radloff and Joe Blackwell. As the trio entered turn three for the final time, Radloff slipped to the inside of Reynolds. Reynolds closed the door, in effect forcing a bobbIe from Radloff. Reynolds raced on to third place ahead of Blackwell, who slid pas! Radloff as he struggled to regain control of his machine. Arndt was once again out front as the Over 50 class rumbled off the starting line, but he soon carne under heavy lire from Charlie langland. Not far behind, Dave Koch, Bob Sutherlin and Phil Little also gave chase. A tense moment occurred when Robert Keyes felJ down in turn three. With no place to go, Raclloff slammed into Keyes' bike and went over the bars the hard way. Aside from a few heavy bruises, both riders were uninjured. Arndt and Langland somehow avoided the carnage and raced on to firstand second place finishes. The Open B final also' provided plenty of excitement. As the lO-rider pack rumbled into turn one for the first time, Dave Koch was inadvertently knocked into the path of Tim Zemanovic and Lee Fealey. The end result was a spectacular crash. All three riders were ~oon on their feet, but Koch's night of racing was over when his bike sustained heavy damage during the melee. "After 1 got up," said Koch later, "I saw my front wheel rolling off of the track! Thars okay though, at least I can replace that. You can't replace body parts." The restart saw 2SOcc B-cJass winner Marcus Bauer score his second win of the evening via a flag-to-flag romp ahead of Over 3O-class mnner Tim Gregory, Ron Brisbin, Keegan Iverson and Troy Wiseth. The Vintage Single final saw a race-long battle between heat-race winner Bob Herman and Paul Koch. On lap three, Paul Koch tucked to the inside of race leader Herman. Koch then edged Herman at the wire to score the win. With two laps remaining, upstart dirt tracker and Novice-class race winner Jay Merei11 slid past Phil little to earn third place honors.
