Yurkovic put his bike out front early in the finit round, with Blocker getting off the line in fourth. Blocker took two laps before taking the second spot, then had to settle for runner-up as Yurkovic was long gone. Travis Frink holeshot the second moto with Blocker glued to his rear fender. Blocker inherited the lead when Frink let his bike fall out from under him on lap three before the finish line. Yurkovic, in third, also got around Frink. Blocker held Yurkovic off for the win and subsequent overall. Jon Meyers got wound up in the 125cc Beginner class, getting off the line in the third spot in moto one but taking over the lead by lap two. Once out front he headed straight to the checkered-with Hector Rios trailing. In the second moto Meyers wasted no time in taking the lead right from the gate with Rios again grabbing second. Darrin Teisher, in his first-ever motocross, was able to take third in moto one and looked as if he could garner another third in the second round, but Nick Casillas sneaked past him on the last lap. Ryan Beat continues to run away from' the 60cc Stock (9-11) competition by posting wins in both motos. Beat was able to take home the overall in the 80cc (9-11) class as well, though not quite as easily as he grabbed the 6Occ-c1ass wins. Jesus Casillas holeshot the first BOcc (9-11) moto but was forced to drop out of the race due to a broken chain. Beat took advantage of Casillas' troubles to win, but had to settle for second place in the following moto. t Ivan Shultz dominated the field of 10 riders in the 60cc Stock (0-8) class. Shultz won both motos, leaving the battle for second between Scott Martin and Jake Bissonnette. Martin was able to hold off Bissonnette in the finit moto, but Bissonnette came th.rough in the second round for second overall. Results INTRa TO MX: 1. Bobby Romero (Kaw); 2. Omar GonzaJez (Hon); 3. The leaders flew to arenacross heights over a 9O-foot jump known as the Tunnel Double. Owens was again out front in the second moto without a challenge until the final two laps. He lost the muffler on his Kawasaki, seriously impairing the bike's performance. Secondplace Trey Owens moved in for the kill. Dennis Owens used up everything the bike had left to hold on for the win over the dosing Trey Owens and Lacey. The first 250cc Expert mota opened with Charley Bogard going down in the first turn, coUecting most of the riders. Lacey saw the incidellt unfolding and took the tum high and wide, and was long gone, followed to the finish by Trey Owens and Andy Bowyer. Once Lacey hit the throttle of his Suzuki for the start of the second moto the race was a win just waiting to happen. This time Bowyer claimed the second spot. Trey Owens put in a strong bid for second midrace but could not make the last few feet for the pass. The Amateur classes were filled with stellar performances. Jacob Martin, riding a Suzuki in 250cc intermediate class was the only non-pro rider to wow the crowd by doing the Tunnel Double. Two young up-and-comers met for a showdown in sSec action. Texan Chase Reed, who swept Mini Junior, and Oklahoman Johnny Marley, who did the same in Mini Senior, met in the Mini Outlaw division. Marley won the finit mota with Reed second. Marley again took the holeshot in the second moto. Reed made contact, and Marley collected a rear wheel full of track apron flags while recovering. Thus encumbered, Marley was unable to truly contend, and Reed won the second moto and the overaJl. Results P/W BEG: 1. Trey Overstreet (Yam); 2. Dalton Daff (Yam); 3. JULY 14 Anthony Pocorobba topped both Open Money motos at the fifth annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Auction Race held at Motocross of Marion County, taking the lion's share of the Pro purse in the event that also served as' round 16 of the Yamaha Sunshine State Championship Series. Pocorobba led the field around tum one <1f the finit moto with John Lundy, Jeff Frisz, Jarrett Tipping and Todd Gardner following. Frisz passed Lundy at the end of lap one as Pocorobba begin to pull away. Tipping and Gardner also slipped by Lundy to run in the third and fourth positions. Halfway into the mota Pocorobba enjoyed a five-second lead while Frisz was under pressure from Tipping for the runner-up spot. Tipping made his move on the step-up jump and flew by Frisz. When the checkered flag carne. out Pocorobba sailed over the finishline jump to score the opening-moto win over Tipping, Frisz, Gardner and James Joine. Pocorobba once again grabbed the holeshot in race two as Tipping, Frisz, Jeff Lampe and Joiner gave chase. Pocorobba outdistanced the pack to claim the second mota and the overall. Tipping held on for second with Frisz and Lampe rounding out the top four places. Joiner and Lundy battled the entire seven laps, Joiner finally edging out Lundy by a wheel for fifth. Licitra untouchable at CRC Motocross By Greg Robertson PALMDALE, CA, JULY 20 RM25O-mounted Mike Licitra found the shifting sands of Los Angeles County Raceway to his liking as he won both the Junior Vet Novice and Vet Novice dasses during California Racing Oub's Saturday night motocross racing. Licitra started things off with a wire-ta-wire win of the first Junior Vet Novice moto. Gabi Abayou gated second and would hold the position for the finit three laps before getting out of shape in a series of whoops and shO<'ting off the track and out of contention. Mike Johnson inherited the runner-up position and' stayed there until a last-lap crash dropped him to a fourthplace finish behind Bob Gorman and Mike Embry. Licitra was awesome in round two, nailing the holeshot and pulling away to a 2Q-second lead over Abayou by the checkers. Gorman came from out of the pack to finish third and would wrap up second overall. Abayou's sec~ ond-moto performance topped Johnson's 4-4 rides for third overall. Things were a bit tougher for Licitra in the Vet Novice class. Although starts weren't a problem for Licitra as he reeled off another holeshot, Brett Allen, Jeff Stapleton and Marv Church weren't about to let him pick up another runaway win. In what turned out to be. a mota-long, four-rider battle for the lead, Licitra would prevail by a couple of
