Currie crushes competition By Jay and Sharon Hauser AXTON, VA,jULY 14 Paw Currie, in town for a five-day riding school, decided to go out and win some races while waiting for his class to start, making a perfect sweep of the 125 and 2SOcc Pro classes during round two of the fourth annual HammerHead/Pepsi Pro-Am Grand Championship series at Lake Sugar Tree Motocross. Currie handily won all four motes with comfortable leads, which a.llowed time for some great aerial tricks for the crowd, from nac·nacs to toe-taps. Currie was pursued by a hard-charging Chad "Fig" Newton in both outings of l2Sec Pro racing, but Newton could not match Currie's blazing pace. Newton scored second in moto two to secure the runner-up spot while Shane Templeton and Terry Kennedy fought it out for third overall. In the end it was Templeton's score of 2-4 just edging out Kennedy' 4-3 finishes for third overall. William Wilson rounded out the top five of the 15-rider field. Currie's rout of the 250cc Pro class was much the same, but Kennedy's effort aboard the 250cc machines had a much better outcome. Kennedy rode strong and put in two impressive rides to take the runner-up spot behind Currie. Tilden Styron made up for some bad luck in the l2Sec class by coming back to take the final podium posHon aboard his 25Occ. justin Gibbs came out fighting with a holeshot in the 80cc (12-15) division, chased by Brad Henserson, Adam, Overcash, Nick Warner and lsha Wood. Wood began to pick off the competition, but when he reached second-place runner Henderson, Wood found that he could go no further. Gibbs took the moto win just ahead of Henderson and- Wood. overcash held on for fourth overWamer. Gibbs was again the man to beat as mota two rolled off the line, and Henderson was again the man on the charge. Henderson provided some fierce competition for Gibbs, but Gibbs held on to the checkers to grab a double moto sweep. Overcash finished third, followed by Wood and Chris Roberts in fourth and fifth, respectively. Results so (4-6): I. {)even Pilkington (KTM)i 2. Bmd !-Iaar (Yam); 3. Broc Tickle (LEM); 4.
